Hi, I bought a 97 Ulysse 2.0 a couple of months ago, and after changing the clutch and timing belt, have today experienced yet more problems...

1) Drove to work this morning, all fine, no issues. Went to start it up again to come home, wouldn't turn over for several attempts, acting like battery was dying, then after a minute or so of taking key out then back in again, started fine. Put that down to a one off, maybe I'd left a light on or something, but then when I stopped at the shop on the way home, it did it again. Finally got it going, gave it a good high speed run, and now it's starting ok again. Does this sound like anything any more serious than a charging problem (car is mainly used for sub 3 mile journeys daily)?

2) When I did eventually get it running, coming off a 70mph bypass onto 30mph stretch, engine temp went straight up and fans came on, even while still moving.

3) As a result of (2), I checked the coolant level, only to find that there's just a little plastic insert in the coolant filler neck, with nothing to indicate a min or max mark, just a distinct top and bottom of the insert. Does anyone know how much coolant should be visible in the expansion tank (it's centrally mounted, moulded black plastic)?

4) while under the bonnet, I also found a loose cable, located just behind the coolant tank, on the left hand side as you look into the engine compartment from infront of the car. It looks to have 3 points on it, but doesn't seem to reach to any other component. Does anyone know what this is for?

I think this is a surprisingly great car ( especially now I've put a bench seat in the back to make it an 8 seater and carried out 2 fairly major repairs/renewals) and Im just hoping that these problems are only minor. If anybody can help, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Many thanks
Ben

Forgot to mention re the coolant - there's only about 10mm visible in the tank filler inlet, doesn't even reach the bottom of the plastic insert. I'm presuming that this isn't enough???????????
