Vehicle:
Uno 1.0 ie
BOSCH fuel injection unit
Engine: 156A2.246

Issue:
Cutting out at idle.

Background:
Mum was crusing her Uno on motorway at 70 mph. After driving 1 hr, Uno started to loose power, she pulled over and it stopped.

RAC recovered vehicle, after initial tests said didnt know fault. Suggested possible blocked exhaust?

Having reviewed some great advice on this site, this is where I am.

The next day (from cold) Uno starts, but stalls straight away. If reved, I can keep it running.

When reving car to keep engine going, I have to keep catching the engine before it dies, it feels like fuel stavation... but I guess other issue could give a similar feeling.

I have:
1. Pulled fuel pipe off inlet to injection unit whilst running. I can confirm good fuel delivery to injection unit.

2. Removed exhaust manifold. Problem still the same, I think this rules out blocked exhaust.

I note:
Oil leak from cam cover.

Current thoughts following items listed on this site:
a. Dist. issue due to oil leak?
or
Could it be a fuel issue?

Has anyone had this issue, and found an answer?

Thanks for any suggestions.

is it getting a spark on the sparkplugs??

If not, I'd look at the ignition module wirring on the distributor and the pickup sensor inside it first.

where are you from?
Thanks Louie.
Hmm... spark. yes I think so... it starts. Not sure how I can test for spark at plug when it is cutting out...
Im based UK SW.
Thanks again. O

UK SW is still a big place :D
Bristol or further afield?

Welcome to the forum by the way.

I assume that this cutting out when idle problem has only started happening since the motorway breakdown?

Hey OakleighsUno, this exact same thing has happened to me 3 days ago.

Till now i have: replaced all plugs and got new tension leads (it runs better but th idle prob is still there)
its like it`s chocking basically... then worsens and cuts off when engine heats up.

i was told that it cant be the ignition module, and that it will either work or not work at all. Tried a coil from a friend, but didnt seem to solve the problem. Could it be the dizzy cap ? or maybe lampda sensor ?

Btw.. pretty sure the throttle advance sensor is working, am also thinking maybe its the vacum advance o the dizzy ?

Any help / news appreciated.

Cheers

My uno would run and run all day long but not restart after about 5 mins cooling down intill about another 20 mins had passed. Most annoying when poping into a shop, and I’d always be wondering will it start?? Hurry up lol.

sadly I've broke it now due to that and the rust, so have no use for 999cc bits... just the 1.3 these days (y)

I ask where you’re from as I have a whole load of spares you could try to see if they resolve the problem. Bit far for you to pop in (n) got 2 of most Uno 1.0 ie engine bits in double spares :bang:
