Right, I got a pair of 6x9's for Christmas and Ive fitted them in today, the only problem is is that Im unsure about the wiring. At the moment, Ive attatched the new speaker wires to the standard rear speaker wires and plugged them all back into the yellow plug and into the standard rear speakers. They all work fine like this but is it OK in long term? It isnt very secure, as when I was sorting out the wires, the wiring came out of the yellow plug. Any advice? The headunit and 6x9's are both Sony.

Maybe not.. ;)

Ok, Ive done a little research, and these seem to be the options.

1) Use current wiring but do not connect to standard speakers, just the 6x9s, however, I would like to use al 4 rear speakers, or will it not make much of a difference if I bypass the standard speakers?

2) Wire the 6x9s into existing wires leading into standard speakers - will this work? Also, would it be better to solder or just use tape?

3) Wire 6x9s into wires already there as they go into connector. At the moment there isnt enough space to do this securely, but is there any adaptors that will do the job i.e. so I can have 4 wires going into the one speaker. (This is the ideal one if possible)

4) Run new wiring through car into head unit.

Any thoughts?

TBH, Id say yure best bet is use the 6x*s only..the std speakers are probably poor and only rated to 20-50W RMS. Also, using all 4 speakers creates a problem as it overloads the HU's amp.

Soldering is good, tape is alright (id recommend soldering as my taped wiring keeps coming apart), but wiring fconnector blocks would do the trick.

Yep, i used connector blocks yesterday and does the job fine, so I've got all 4 running, didn't realise it'll be a problem for the HU amp.

Cheers
