Hi there,

Anyone upgraded their 6-speed Speedgear to 7-speed ?? Heard from a local Fiat mechanic that it can be done.

where would you get a 7 speed gear box from?

And why would you want to unles you drop a far bigger engine into the car?

Hey...so do I!!

No need for a 6-speed box...the punto "behaves" better at high revs! ;)

I don't think it would be common to take the 6 gear Speedgear CVT box and reprogram it to be like the 7 gear Sporting speedgear one. I'd love to drop a higher 6 gear box into my Punto as there's loads of torque and it would make out of town and motorway driveing a little more refined.

The only way to find out about the speedgear is to start asking knowledgable people about it. Find out who makes them and the associated controller and go from there...

7 Speed........ what a good idea skylines dont even have 7 gears and very little japanese supercars do.
SO WHY DO YOU THINK, YES THINK, a punto could use all of the gears not even the HGT has the power.

You don't have to be able to rev it out in every gear, a higher top would be good for steady motorway plods and mpg. I would benefit from a six speeder in my cinq, as it is, slightly modded, you can put it into the red in 5th - and a 90mph cruise sits you at 4800.

Most modern cars have an overdrive 5th or 6th, a Cavalier I used to have (1989 F reg 2.0 GLi) did 110mph at 3600 revs in 5th. Work that one out and it's geared for a theoretical max of 195mph. This didn't make 5th useless, just meant you were better dropping a cog or 2 for better acceleration. It'd do 40+ mpg on a steady 80mph run too.

the speedgear is a CVT, so it should be possible to program change-up times, it just seems silly, if you want a manual, get a manual. want automatic, get one!
Is this the same as the Primera has?

How about a 20-speed (well, 10-speed and hi-lo transfer box) 'box out of an old Unimog? [8D]
