one for the more seasoned members...

this week i have been replacing a HG on a 1.6, result of a failed thermostat, that has been sat for about 6 months (not mine, the brother in laws) today i timed it up using cam locking tools. i double checked the mechanical timing by spinning the engine over by hand 2 revolutions, refitting the locking tools and ensuring the timing mark on the fly wheel/bell housing aligned. everything aligned perfectly... i checked again and everything was fine.

fast forward a couple of hours i checked for fault codes. none stored (y) which means at least i connected everything. fresh oil, fresh filter, fresh air filter, throttle body clean and relearn, MAP sensor reset. and start her up. starts fine but idles rough, rev her up past 3k and it *seems* to be normal anything below 3k and it kind of surges or hunts.

im reusing the old plugs (the gaps good and they've been wire brushed) but would expect a misfire fault if they were shot, im unable to road test it due to no tax/MOT/Insurance.

kinda narked me off as i figure she'd be perfect after working on her :(.
any ideas welcome as what check first/next as im stumped  although im pretty sure it will be a sensor/config fault.

1st thing im going to try is the fuel. lemme know your thoughts.

Fixed...

Loose inlet manifold bolt allowing air in. :bang: School boy error whilst rushing around yesterday.

If its ok with Mods can we leave this thread up. Theres a miriad of 'timing related rough idle threads' and this might give someone the fresh set of eyes needed to diagnose a similar issue
