Technical 500 L build help

If you post a picture of the bits and your rear crossmember it should be clearer to help. I may be wrong but it sounds like you have a mixture of 500 and 126 bits

I live in Saltney, which is just outside Chester--it is about 1-1/2 hour drive from you (about 80 miles). I don't know if there is anybody closer, but even if there is, you are very welcome to come down, look over my car and pick my brain. I have a spare engine and all sorts of bits that you can pore over and take pictures of. I also have a large selection of Fiat and Abarth books (admittedly, mainly Abarth) that you can look through. Contact me directly by e-mail, or phone--01244-683824--any time after Friday evening (away at daughter/granddaughter until then).

Yes I think you are right ,I must have a mixture of 500 and 126 parts. I seem to have the wrong mount that fits on the block ,that allows the suspension arm to pivot.I will try to upload some photo's tomorrow. If anyone knows where I can obtain said piece I would be grateful.

Thanks

Both 'Van de Laan' and 'dmdautomotors' sell rear engine mounts. The 'dmd' item is slightly more expensive, but they say there's in steel. (the normal one is in ally). I would suggest that you buy one of them, see what you get vis-a-vie what you have, have a look at another car (mine? re my offer) and go from there.

I have an unwanted brand new 126 type engine mount and spring if you need it.
Could be in your hands by weekend

This is what I have. I think I am missing the bit that fits on the engine and the swinging arm attaches to.

Can you upload a photo of the rear crossmember. Those parts are for a 126 crossmember so it depends what you have

Also it looks like the bushes on the swingarm are perished and require replacing

Yes, as Damian surmised, the bits on the far left and right and possibly the spring are from a 500 and the other bits are from a 126 and although also incomplete could be used with a modified rear cross-member.

Someone here will have the bits spare.

Shell away for paint so cannot put photos on website.Like i said I think I am just missing the aluminium piece that bolts t the engine,

Ah yes I see what you mean now. You are missing the bit that bolts to the engine. The spring, rubbers, green bit and the plate are not needed

I realise I am a bit of a drive from you, but if you want to come down to my house (in Saltney), with your bits, see exactly what you have/need you are most welcome to. Being that I am retired, I am in most days/evenings. The coffee/tea will be hot, plenty of biccies and plenty of 500 chatter!

Shell now away for paint , I am now altering the wiring loom to suit . That means beefing up the wire from the now alternator and I m using a key starter.Well not a key ,but a button that now occupies the empty hole in the dash.Bought the button which was the right size and it came with a relay for £6 (China/Ebay).I dont know what kind of metal they used to build these ,but with no primer or anything even though it has been sandblasted i:t hasn.t yet rusted at all .If it had been my Mini I would have to prime at once. Thanks by the way for the wiring diagrams on here, they were very. useful Just now getting a large parts list to order for when body comes back.By the way engine mount now all sorted thanks for your help.

I now have the correct parts for the engine mount ,but I cannot work out the horseshoe shaped spacers. It came with six and the Haynes manual makes no mention of them. While talking about the Haynes manual has anybody else noticed on page 31
it mentions removing 3 bolts from the hubs to remove the shafts.?
Getting there have ordered rest of bits needed ready for car coming back from paint.

If you look at the picture on page 29 fig 1.5 it shows the spacers. They go either side of the mounting bracket underneath the bump stop and are used to raise or lower the height of the engine. TBH I just stick an equal amount either side.

Originally older cars only had three bolts for the driveshafts.

Has anyone done anything with the gearbox breather to stop oil mess i,e. catch tank
etc.

Going through the boxes of spares that came with the car I have come across
a mechanical rev counter .I think it is fiat but would like to know what car it coud be from. There is also a brake and clutch lever which is from a 126 ,so maybe from that range.
