General 50.5 MPG - 1.2 8v Punto

I reset the trip meter after dropping the missus at work and the 13 mile journey home (mixture A-Road/M-way/town road) recorded 50.5 mpg! So I guess the claims are true. Years and years ago my old Honda 250 motorcycle struggled to achieve that...

Sounds good, I have had several experiments with my mpg after it was quoted at 50.1 when we bought it it was constantly saying only about 40-45 for local journeys. Then when I took it on a long journey I reset it and 140 miles up the M1 later at about 80-85mph it read 49.6.

Then another 140miles on the way back at 65-70, same journey, I got 63.2mpg - no joke. Not believeing this I filled it up and worked it out the hard way and got 55mpg for both ways - a good average so I'm pretty happy with it now where before I was a bit dissapointed.

It seemed wierd though to change so much because my dad's Skoda Octavia does a genuine 65mpg whether around town or long journeys regardless - maybe because it's a powerful car. Anyway just my findings.

Also a 1.2 8v by the way!

Haven't done much over 65 - 70 (75 tends to be my top speed anyway these days) as still running in - even though the dealer reckoned there was no need to do that. Approaching 600 miles, the rough edges seem to be falling away, engine and transmission starting to purr nicely. Only glitch as mentioned elsewhere was the steering failure/engine fault lights up once but that hasn't repeated. Will be doing between 40 and 80 miles every day for the next week which should hopefully finish the running in and see if the steering fault returns.

I've found the reading is often on the high side if you work it all out. I keep a log off all the petrol used since getting my 8v, and its averaged just over 50mpg. It was better, but now I go a bit faster

Ok i know i am gonna sound like an idiot here!! I have a 1.2 8v!! How the hell are you getting the readings? lol!! I didn't get a book with my car so i have no idea what hal'f the buttons are for!!

On the end of the windscreen wiper control arm should be a "Trip" button. Press it to scroll various stats including trip mileage, elapsed time in motion, mpg both average and instant plus of course life miles. To reset the trip details, just hold the button down for a few secs. Makes the analogue odometer on my old Astra look like something from an Apollo spacecraft.

The only thing you can't seem to do on the basic 8v is dim the dash display (that I can see) as it doesn't have the more advanced CDU with the mode button.

lol is the mk1 analogue or didgital?? My mate also has a mk 2 and he has all them options but he has a basic model with exercise windows i have the same model but with lazy windows!![?] I am confused!!

yep i reguarly average 48mpg in summer and 45 in winter. but if doing along trip can easily get 55-60 mpg out of my sporting.

also buttons for my trip compyter are on the dash not a stalk

I got 85.8mpg for a short period.(bout 2 minutes)
I cheeted tho. the peterol station near me is at the top of the hill and i rolled down it in neutral just to see how high i could get it

wot model is it?

have you tried pressing the trip button on the righthand side behind the steering wheel? it toggles through trip milage, mpg, total etc. to reset mpg hold it for 3 secs whilst it displays mpg.

my sisters x reg punto didnt have a trip computer- it was a base model wih nothing on it except power steering.....the lowest model that has a trip computer is the 'Active'

It is just a standard mk2 1.2 8v!! When i press that button all i have is trip and milage!! I have power stearing, electric windows and central locking.
