Anyone managed to wear out their OE Bridgestone tyres?

Mine are on 26000 miles, and I am trying to wear them out before the winter, but they seem to be of a compound resistant to wear and indeed grip in muddy conditions! Roadholding on tarmac is generally ok in wet / dry.

Thinking of replacing with Vredestein Quadtrac2 (sp?) - any other recommendations?

Ta, James

James,

To be honest i rate the Pirelli tyre, i have tried Bridgestone and others but tend to favour the OEM fitted Pirellis on mine.

Alot in the forum re tyre choice, i think as much depends on personal feel/preferance as anything, plus the typical driving conditions and surfaces you travel on.

Cheers

I wore out all 4 of my Bridgestones at 24,000 miles having swapped them round every 6,000 miles. I put on Hankook Centrums from MyTyres. They have worn well, grip well in dry, wet and snow and are a bit quieter than the Bridgestones. As they are directional tyres, they look quite sporty too.

It does seem that the Bridgestones are very hard wearing! I've been 'naughty' and not rotated mine too often... because, when I got it (at 18k) the rears looked OK and the fronts had been replaced by some horrible cheap Westlake (non M&S) tyres that I replaced with Bridgestones as soon as I could as they had no grip whatsoever! Now at 41k, and I believe the rears are still the original tyres. They are now 'well worn' (close to the wear indicators on the rears) and I will replace all 4 before the winter. I too had toyed with the Quadtrac's -- they look good, and are a European maker. (Not sure how good the Korean tyres are...although DrChris seems happy with them). But, the Pirellis that Fiat now fit as standard are cheaper... Probably depends in the end on what my local tyre centre can get hold of more easily.

Cheers guys - it will prob depend on what the local garage can supply, and indeed depend on which garage will take an order number rather than a money directly! (This being a works vehicles rather than private)

I will have a look at Pirelli's - which particular model are you referring to?

In the UK (and maybe the other not-so-snowy parts of Europe) Fiat now fit Pirelli Euro 2500, M+S marked, as standard, as Bridgestone stopped making the Dueller tyres in Panda size.
(see mytyres.co.uk -- http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop....110.9784&kplz=&typ=1163500&dsco=110&ranzahl=4)

In other markets (and on some UK models too for a short time after the Bridgestones went out of production) they fit Pirelli Winter 190 Snowsport.
(here: http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop....110.9784&kplz=&typ=1201500&dsco=110&ranzahl=4)

'Winter' tyres are designed to offer more grip than 'normal' tyres at temps below 7C, but not so good above this and will wear quickly. The Euro 2500s are so-called all-season tyres, better for all year use.

The old Bridgestones have a clue as to their intended use, marked HT -- highway / terrain. This shows they are intended mainly for highway (road) use, and explains their poor mud grip.

These could be good offroad:

Not sure about on-road use though. Anyone got a spare set of 14" Panda wheels??

Cooper have a good reputation in the off road community, but it's a crying shame you cannot get Kumho KL71s :(
