Well this has been pushed to the back for quite a while now, workshop move, other projects etc, but i'm needing a little more work space and as this is so close to being finished I thought I'd finally get it out of the way.

Brought it out far enough to clean under the front wheel arches, then I can get to work on the front suspension.

Stripped down the N/S hub next, nothing appears to be worn so it should be a simple job of cleaning and painting everything before it goes back together.

Vern, please say that there were stands under the car and not just the jack holding it up while you were under it

Don't worry Jon I only cleaned under the arches while it was in the position in the pics and that didn't involve getting under it. I then pushed it back inside AND PUT IT ON STANDS (y) to strip the suspension.

Well on closer inspection a couple of rubber items were looking past their best. One track rod end seal was starting to crack, and one track control arm bush was a little cracked on the edges, both items still perfectly functional just not up to the standard of this rebuild. So, two track control arms ordered and two track rod ends :).

I already have new front discs waiting to go on as there was quite a lip on the originals, so much for 'clean up and paint'.

Well I'm slowly working my way through the components. New discs and track rod ends, hub and backplates de-rusted and treated so that it doesn't come back again :(. The backplates still have to be painted black, the coating thats on them in the pic is a preventative made by Bilt Hamber, highly recommended. I'd put them in a bath of their Deox C first, this stuff disolves the rust away over night and is also highly recommended.
The new track control arm comes painted black but it's a dull thin coating so I've painted it again with the same satin black.

I started out with this rebuild trying to keep to original finishes but the components that don't have any like the brake discs and hubs very quickly look rough and rusty again so I've broken my rule and given them a hopefully sympathetic helping hand.

Tried to get new outer cv boots today, I tried for the same pattern ones I used last time only to be told they are no longer available. So then I phoned the Fiat dealer only to be told that originals are also no longer available, surely I don't have to use universal ones? :(

Not sure if these would be the same (being for a 4x4) but got patern ones the other day for mine, the details on the box are:

Shaftec Automotive Components BK55 Locn : U416D.7MCRAT.

Did you get these from your local motor factors?

What is the preferred method of clipping them on? On my Clio jubilee clips work great but is this the best for Panda's?

I use the metal straps as I have the tool but cable ties are as good as anything.

Thanks for the part number Antony (y) I have been able to get some now though, not originals but pretty decent pattern ones from Euro car parts, I think they're made by Frontline.

Here are the ones I have...........

These fit around a bearing on the driveshaft, is that what you have Kev?

I fitted the outer boots that I picked up from Euro car parts today, they seem to be pretty good quality. Made by Lucas not Frontline as I previously thought.
