What do you mean double clutching?
i do press the pedal down hard?
other gears are fine.

might be easier to google it or find a 70yr old preferably ex heavy goods to demo for you and explain

Doubt the vehicle would have a crash non-synchro gearbox.
Would suggest that the synchro on that gear is stuffed and needs replacement. "Double clutching" is a method of changing gears on a non-synchro box to prevent crunching of gears when changing down. Adopting such a method would alleviate the crunch on yours on downchange.
Ian.

Make sure the clutch is properly free with the pedal about half way down. If not it will be dragging during normal changes and this will hold it out of gear or cause clashing of the dogs. 2nd gear is the worst for this trouble as it's the lowest gear most people try to change down to while on the move.
