its funny buty you dont know exactly how many problems you have till you start reading forums :-]. my td100 gearbox has recently started to complain about going into 2nd gear a nice little crunch is let out each time unless I double the clutch, is this the start of a teminal problem or is it reasonably cheap to repair ??

sounds a bit like my first gear problem - i've been told it's either the first gear synchromesh or (as reverse gear can also get notchy) the clutch is fubar.

I lost gears 3 and 4 on a long trip a few years back (made interesting driving!). A garage had a 'fiddle about' and found nothing wrong, but it was cured. Re-occurred a few weeks later (lost 1 and 2 that time), cured itself, and been OK since.
"Grit on the changing rod ends" was the suggestion, but no idea what that means!

OK, so I've got lost again but anyway. Pops was looking at my (Brava) engine the other day and dived into the car and stated that the rubber boots had started to pull away on the clutch and a gear which was causing dirt to get onto the rods which was probably causing my crashing of gears. My problem is going from a high gear into first and a way around it is to go from high gear into second then into first without releasing the clutch *shrugs*. Apparently they're a bu**er to fix as they are so deep down everything has to be stripped out but it'll have to be done soon.
