Hi All,
New to Turbo cars and new to this site.

I have just bought a R Reg 1997 2.0 Coupe Turbo and need to know some things about the clutch. The problem is when I am driving at say 50 and try to floor it, the revs climb fast but the car doesn't. I've tried it in different gears and it is pretty much the same in all gears. Am I driving her all wrong or is the clutch going?

If I do a quick acceleration from first gear right through it behaves ok with limited or no slipage. The guy who sold me it said it was the way it should be but I don't believe him.

I'm going to get all the belts changed and the clutch done too (if needed) since the engine will be out. If anyone has advice I would greatly appreciate it. The servicing bill just seems to be getting bigger and bigger.

OH and if anyone knows a specialist who is reasonable in Northern Ireland I would love to findout about them because they don't seem to exist over here.

OK thanks for your advice.
I'm being quoted around £600 for the work and I have to get the parts myself (Cam belt Kit AirCon £220, Clutch £150 inc VAT).
So probably going to be about £1000.
Should I replace the water pump at the same time?

Right, if you're having the cambelt done, might as well get the water pump changed.
I doubt the engine needs to come out for a clutch change. It certainly doesn't to have a cambelt change.
I reckon it might work out cheaper to get a ferry over and go to Motor-Mech in Birmingham. I doubt you'd spend £600 in labour then, and I reckon Paul would have it all done in a day. He can do a cambelt change in a morning, and it costs £400, including belts and tensioners.

Thanks for the advice I'm starting to think that traveling across would have been a good idea but unfortunately I've purchased all the parts for it (Clutch, Cam belt kit, water pump, front brake pads, oil/air filter, sparks etc), at a cost of £489 inc delivery + VAT.

Labour I've been quoted £550 inc VAT by a alfa mechanic who says he can do it without removing the engine i met someone who said this guy knows his stuff because he's been doing it for years on Alfa's and Fiats, so hopefully it'll be in safe hands.

Gutted that I have to spend £1040 on it before I even get to drive it properly, I bought it thinking it was mint. Serves me right for not researching service costs properly.

Thanks again for the advice

If you've already purchased the parts it won't matter to Paul. In fact, the £400 he charges for a cambelt change is about £200 for parts, and about £200 for labour. £1040 sounds like a lot of money... (because it is).
Give Paul a ring and ask him how much to do the clutch, cambelt and a service. Obviously tell him you've got the parts already.
I had a look on FCCUK for info, and found that you'd posted there too! The reason Paul and others recommend him is because he's good.
