Hi.
I am new to this forum, but not Fiats.
I have a new 2012 Euro 5 Ducato 2.3 motor home. I have a couple of questions that my dealer appears not to be able to find. Maybe someone out there can help.
First off, I had a problem from new with the steering wheel being a few degrees off centre, making it appear I was permanently turning left. Also I find that there is a very small amount of free movement in the steering, so I find myself constantly having to correct to keep the van going in the right direction. I thought modern van rack and pinion steering would be as good as a car.
My dealer says they cannot find a problem. Trouble is when a dealer is driving around a town testing it short term, it is not like driving on mixed roads for a couple of hours.
I got the wheel adjusted to the correct position after asking a third dealer, but the free play is still a problem.
I recently had an ECU upgrade, and shortly afterwards started to experience a period of abnormal running when the engine is cold. I thought maybe supermarket fuel could be causing it, so I have had a couple of tank fulls of branded fuel now, but the problem is still there.
It feels like a slight flat spot when accelerating gently, whilst the engine is cold. If pulling out of a junction the engine feels flat. Pressing the accelerator harder, of course, brings you into turbo territory, which you do not really want when exiting 90 degrees onto a main road. After 5-10 minutes, when the engine has warmed to normal, it runs OK. As usual my dealer cannot find the problem. Not that I really expected a heavy footed technician to come across the problem. I need a good diesel engine specialist as I know there is a problem there somewhere. My other option is to sit with the engine running until it is warm and then set off, but what a waste of fuel.
Fiat Camper Care say they have not had any similar problems notified since their ECU update, so I am at a bit of a loss. Come the cold weather I can only assume it will get worse, as the engine will take longer to warm up.
Maybe somebody out there has come across a similar problem.
