Hi all, I'm new to this forum. My question is, I have a 2010 Ducato motorhome, looking for info on how to service the transmsission.
Thanks.

What engine size 2.3 or 3.0litre? Different gearboxes ,filling procedures ,oil amounts and oil?

Its a 160 multijet 3.0 litre with the comfort-matic transmission.

Yours is the m40 gearbox to drain gearbox oil 8mm Allen key bottom diff housing you will see another 8mm Allen key near right driveshaft that’s for draining if your doing repair work with box removed so leave that one. To refill look for 8mm Allen key front near gearbox speed sensor , measured amount 2.9litres tutella sae 75-85, the reservoir for gear selection system uses tutella transmission cs speed 75w oil , but you’ll need diag equipment to service that , it is advisable to change clutch hydraulic dot 4 oil in the clutch reservoir because it goes black and can cause failure to thrust bearing but again you will need diag equipment to bleed clutch system, plus the clutch bleed nipples can seize Iv known them to break too

Thanks heaps whine0, your info is a great help. My vehicle has only done 55000k, should I still service the Trans.
Also is there a good scan tool on the market.

The gearbox are bullet proof! The main fault I see on higher mileage transmission is thrust bearing leak and fail the dot 4 fluid is alway dirty black after time i don’t know what diag system could bleed clutch system we might get some more info off other members

The latest version of MES 3.9R1 has hydraulic system/ABS unit bleeding functions for X250 and X290. though I haven't used them.

Hi that’s interesting to know ,can it communicate with Magneti Marelli gearbox ecu that’s where you need to be for gearbox work

That’s the control unit looks like that would do the job [emoji106]

If I purchase a ELM 327 interface and download the MES 3.9R1 program, will that work on all ecu's including the engine

Can all this be purchased or I am better leaving for a Fiat dealer

Hi I can’t comment on that diag software never used it but I do gearbox work on comfortmatic all time they can be troublesome to set up when you’ve bled and removed parts off system e.g setting clutch biting point ,and calibration of gearbox , can mes do all these functions I don’t know also remind you bleed nipple can seize and if anything goes wrong with your setting up ,vehicle won’t drive ,gearbox shuts down and won’t go into gear ,recovery truck to dealer will be the only option £££

Those functions are all shown in MES, but I've not used them. I have no reason to believe they don't work though, as I've found the software reliable and it is under continuous development.

Whether you'd want to use it for gearbox work, or several other things, I suppose would depend on your competence and confidence as a mechanic, and having access to the necessary repair information, plus as whine0 says, your backup strategy if things went wrong!

I have the multiplexed version of MES, which saves swapping cables if you're connecting to different ECUs on the vehicle.
