Hi again. 2006 Ducato 244 2.8jtd. Had battery disconnected while doing a bit of welding. Reconnected battery and it won't start.
Starter turns over
Lift pump works.
Rev counter works.
Power to key code reader.
Padlock light on dash does not light up at all.
Fault code U1600 comes up. Will clear using diagnostic but turn ignition off and then back on and U1600 returns.
Apart from disconnecting the battery I have done nothing electrical to the vehicle.
Help, Please.

Does point towards an immobiliser issue with that code, I assume you have tried any spare keys etc. and checked all connections from the antenae ring around the ignition key hole and where it goes on towards immobiliser ecu etc.
When you do a search on that code I see it brings up a Fiat Forum post from 2021 so you are not the first.
I had an Iveco with that engine that I blew the key chip away when steam cleaning it (long story) but I got a company to de immobilise it after sending them the Bosch MS6.3 ? ECU from memory it was a 2004 2.8 JTD so same engine although rear wheel drive.

As code light does not show, and you have checked the supply, did that include the earth connection, or did you only check the positive?

Spare key tried. the connections from the antenna should be ok as it was replaced with a new one earlier this year.
I really don't want to delete the immobilizer as it bring up all sorts of problems regarding insurance.
The stupid thing is it was running perfectly after I changed some electrical connectors on the main fuel pump. What is wierd is that this is the third time I have had trouble with the engine not starting after removing the air filter body. I am a bit of a loss.

The Orange plug is near the air filter & these are the cables to the fuel tank Pump.
The other photo is on the Chassis Rail in the same area area as well as another ground at the top of this photo.

As code light is not illuminating, perhaps as suggested by @Anthony489 on previously linked thread, test the light by applying an earth to pin 2 of the code receiver connector.

When testing the supply to the code receiver, did you do this by back probing the connector, or with the connector disconnected? If there is a partial fault within the code receiver, then the readings could be different.

When I had key a code problem a few years ago, I fixed it with a liberal dose of contact cleaner applied to the code receiver connectors. My main target was the antenna connector, which I believe only carries low voltage signals.

I have removed the air filter body and bracket from my 2006 2.8jtd several times, without affecting the key code, but it is in close proximity to the engine bay fusebox which hides connector D004A, and the filter is also close to the ECU.

Time to get some contact cleaner by the looks of it.
