Hi everyone. I'm just about to fit a new head gasket to my ducato but can't find the head bolt torque settings can anyone help cheers

These are for the 2.8 JTD so I assume the non CRD 2.8 would be the same
The cylinder head gasket is ASTADUR type
Because the gasket is made out of special material, it undergoes a polymerisation process during engine operation and hardens considerably during service. Take the following precautions to ensure that gasket polymerisation takes place
Keep the gasket sealed in its plastic bag and do not remove from its protection until ready to fit.
Do not lubricate the gasket or contaminate with oil or grease.

Value - daNm
Fastening Component
Ø
6,0 + 6,0 + 180°
CYLINDER HEAD Bolt M12
I assume that means
1st stage 6.0Nm
2nd stage 6.0Nm
3rd stage - tighten a further 180 degrees

Take care to tighten the fixing bolts which are different lengths.

Follow the order shown in the figure for each tightening sequence.
Cheers

I'm a little confused ...and I don't think it's the mulled wine
6Nm + 6Nm + 180 degrees
I can see the first setting of 6Nm
But the second doesn't seem right...is that a further 6Nm on top of the first....so why not express the figure as 12Nm.
Just seems to me a very strange way to express the figures??

Thanks to both of your replies I would imagine after you have been round them all with the initial 6nm, the one you started in would be loose again hence the 6nm again although a further 180 after that does seem a big jump but I'll let you know how it goes should have all the bit today so hopefully do the job tomorrow weather pending, thanks again

Jimbo. From what I read into FreeSpirit's reply it says the value is danm. That is 10x nm so the torque would be 60nm not 6.0 also the 180 degrees is another 1/2 a turn after the two rounds of 60nm.

Thats my reading into the info, If I am wrong then apologies, just posting this to express caution and check your figures.

Mike

Yeah 6nm does seem way to low like only just finger tight, still waiting for my cylinder head to arrive at the moment anyway so ill double check It cheers

Good spot that mike, it is 60 then go round a second time at 60 then the half turn cheers

I don't have a shop manual for the Ducato, but that doesn't seem correct to me??
Why would you tighten to 60Nm on the first cycle & then tighten to 60 again??...by doing this your achieving barely nothing
I think IMHO that this means another 60Nm on top of the first 60
In addition 60Nm in old money is only 44Lb Ft..the sort of figure on a 50cc moped engine.

I would suggest conformation from an agent before tightening...also are they stretch bolts fitted?? ...is so these must be replaced as they can only be used once

I know what your saying but it's very unlikely you would do a m12 bolt up to 120 nm let alone another 1/2 turn on top you would be looking at somewhere near 250nm by that point ! And yes they are stretch bolts which should be renewed at £100 a set !!

All I'm saying is that the figures need confirming from a Fiat dealer..
if the bolts are M12 they will be either 12.9 or 10.9 tensile, these are a fair old bolt.
To give you a feel for what I'm saying ..my Triumph motorcycle has the following stated 30Nm then a further 30N, then a further 20Nm allowed to rest for 2hrs and then a final 120degres...and this is a petrol engine & not an old oiler..

It just appears old that a figure of 60Nm is quoted & then a second tighten to the same value
