I have a friends 2.8jtd and it will not start also he had a problem with it last yr and the cam belt had sheared 2 teeth from it it would turn over but not start got it running new timing belt fitted and crank sensor as it had a knock from belt I presume. Been running ok for the past 4months. Any way he was going out in it last month and it just stopped at a roundabout. And will not start we haven’t looked at it yet NO TIME. It cranks and immobiliser light extinguishes. But will not fire up. Any ideas please. I thought it might be the fuel rail pressure valve or pump but as I say not looked at it yet regards. Paul. (Elmer )

I also have a 2001 ducato 2.8 jtd with injector light intermittently appearing and loss of power. I’m putting that down to 2 things that I have come across on the forum 1 injector connections too tight which I have moved the clamping at right hand side to give a little slack. 2 throttle position sensor it has had a new one fitted by a commercial van place (Mercedes dealer ) ?? Before I purchased the vehicle but still this problem seem to exist so i think it could be the wires going from pedal to connector intermediate connector to ECU not check yet need to put my multi meter on them I read that there have been problems with this part of the loom and people have bypassed this connector and soldered new wire to the ecu connector. So I may go that route if I find high resistance on any. Thanks.

Can you get a code read on it?

I suggest that it was the camshaft sensor that was replaced, as the crank sensor is well shrouded, and remote fom any belts.
Low fuel rail pressure, faulty crank sensor, or manifold pressure sensor, will cause the engine to shutdown.
For starting the same sensors are used, but the camshaft sensor is also required to determine the stroke.
It is quite easy to trap the camshaft sensor wiring when replacing the engine cover. I recently found myself heading in that direction myself, and I admit to being fussy about wiring.

Ah I am sorry I didn’t see your comment and I am not the mechanic that did the repair and belt replacement but have been landed with it to try get it to run I will. Heck see if the sensor cable has indeed been trapped and nipped. I did loosen an injector pipe a little but there is no pressure when cranked. The crank sensor was changed at same time as belt as z master of course. But let’s not presume that just because it’s new that it’s not faulty. Where is the manifold pressure sensor located. I am a mechanic. But mainly on Honda goldwing motorcycles. And I look after my own vehicles many thanks. Paul

Be surprised if Map sensor stopped engine. Need code read.

Will a obd2 reader read codes on the Ducato ?? Also I don’t always go with what codes say as even a tps comes up as faulty when it’s not the tps that’s at fault. It’s wiring connections

Ideally not just a code reader, but one that rads live data, common rail pressure etc.
The tool many on Forum use is MES MultiEcuScan with cables from companies like Gendan etc. They can advise what is needed for the vehicle you are working on as some older vans don't use EOBD ports, I know I had that problem with Iveco Daily's in the past.

Yes I know mine doesn’t have a OBD2. As it’s a 2001 2.8jtd and has the old type 2 pin connector

But any info as to where I can start is appreciated I do know how to use a multi meter as the goldwing bikes are a lot of electronics on them top of the range motorcycles £32k a piece

Use of a multimeter will only get you so far on these vehicles, I was in the motortrade for over 55 years and without specific diagnostics the modern stuff is a pain in the*****.
Speak to Gendan they will tell you what is required and are very knowledgable.

I understand that adapter leads are available to connect to the older 2 pin OBD port.
Well here we are again. The van turned up on the recovery wagon last night and I thought to my self could iff to be an easy fix. So I opened the bonnet and took off the relay and fuse top off. Checking all fuses the last fuse I pulled had blown. So I replaced it and she started up straight away the heater plug light on dash was flashing for a while ?? As it was ticking over it spluttered and stopped. So I re started it. It’s started and then blew the fuse again replaced fuse and started it again while I checked fuses again the 7.5 amp fuse (fuel pump) looked a bit corroded and when I touched it it blew the fuse and the number 20 fuse blew at same time so I will check the fuse box connection and clean them and replace fuses again see what happens

Has it been through flood water?
Can you disconnect what the fuse operates then with an amp meter or fuseible link in the circuit gradually identify what is causing the overload.
Fiat seem to suffer from earthing points also , so maybe and earth point is corroded and the load is going back through another circuit.
