Technical 2.2 ford puma engine timing chain

"9 times out of 10 if the chain breaks you will get away with it" !

But I would want to know 'why' The chain failed..!

And probably change the things it touches on its run

Extended oil change interval of 20,000 miles reccomend by the manufactures together with users not changing oil even at 20,000 mile intervals would be my thoughts on chain failures.

I agree it would be silly not to change the compete chain kit as they need not be expensive. Chain kit ; chain, two guides, two cam sprockets, chain tensioner and crank sprocket. Also required are a new timing cover and crank oil seal also cheap.

For anyone interested .......Here is one I repaired earlier.
Van was on motor way traveling at 70mph when timing chain broke.
I was very sceptical that any diesel engine could escape undamaged from a broken timing chain .
Van owner very relived, he needs the van for work being a joiner.
