Hello

Im having problems at the moment with a leaky fuel filter housing ( black plastic type)

I seen an add on the net for a 2nd hand one off a the same van just 2 years older (2003) with the old style metal filter on

Does anyone know if one of these can be swapped for mine? i understand the current one works by pressure not to mention the couple sensors that plug in.

Any help much appreciated

cheers
Jimmy

I doubt that!
With the introduction of the plastic housing the fuel lines also got plastic plugs, so-called 'quick connect' plugs that rely on a tiny plastic seal and a movable collar to lock them. And of course there is the issue with the thermo sensor and the water detecting float that are part of the plastic housing.

Hi Jimmy - so you have a leaking housing - surprise surprise. I have posted recently a similar problem and if you trawl through the site you will find others with the same issue. If you look on the Caravan Club site there are also numerous complaints. I have contacted the DVSA about a recall because of the danger of losing power or the potential fire hazard but [email protected] says there is not sufficient evidence yo get Fiat to do a recall. I would urge you to email Andrew Tudor about your leak as if folk do not report leaks then no evidence is gathered about the problem

Thanks for all the replies unscrewed the lid flipped the o ring wiped it all up and tightened it again seems to be sort of holding for the moment. How long for is anyone's guess.

My vans 2005 would they even consider it for recall? Unsure if it's even the original housing they'd probably just blame incorrect tightening on filter change anyway I expect.

The ufi housings are far stronger and better than most plastic filter housing, I see the delphi ones leaking and broken all the time, never seen a ufi one broken or leaking. Humans can only hand torque about 11nm- 14nm with one hand you need to use a wrench or some kind to get to the spec is 30nm.
