Hi all , iv got a marea weekend hlx 2.0 20v , s plate, 98' , iv put new batteries in the key fob and tried it on the car - NOTHING , if pushed a pen into the dip switch by the rear view and it flashed green i activated the key fob and nothing , any insight form the forum please any help would be a great help as i live in east london and want to keep theiving gits outa my car - Thanks people.

yes Beast , it lights up great, i splashed out on energizer batteries just 2 b sure , and the green light flashes by the rear view:confused:

if the remote battery was dead, or if you did not replace it within a couple of minutes once the old battery was removed, then the car will be out of sync with the remote because the remote will have started back at the beginning of its rolling code sequence.

to get the car and remote back in sync you need to use either of the 4 digit remote codes. this procedure makes use of the button with the green light you are talking about. the 4 digit codes will either be on paper keyrings or on a code card.

Jug is it the same with the separate alarm fob and what does one do with the code. My code is on two little bits of aluminium

thanks Jug but i didnt get the old codes from the previous owner , same as the logbook - been waiting 4weeks for it now:( , is there anything you can suggest please ,how much do you think Fiat would charge to provide me with the code , Regards Joker

sorry Jug the old battery was completely stone dead-dont know how long for tho ,iv asked the previous owner for other bits of info but he's not bothered to reply - how nice of him eh.

there is no guarantee they will have the code, but if they do then a code card is usally £10, however you need to show the logbook to prove it is your car.

all you have to do is:

-Press the button that is between your courtesy light and the ultrasonic sensors on the roof of your car (near sunroof switch)
-Release the button after a second or two
-After a couple of seconds the LED will flash once
-Enter the first digit of your 4 digit code by pressing the button the relevant number of times
-After a couple of seconds the LED will flash once
-Repeat this for the next 3 digits of the code.

If the code was correct the LED will flash for approximately 10 seconds.
(If the code was incorrect the LED will remain on for 10seconds, so start from the beginning when the LED goes out)

-With the LED flashing press and hold the button on the car and then press and hold the button on the key. Keep them both pressed until the LED stops flashing and remains on.
-Release the button on the remote, then the one on the car.

now what heppens next depends on the age of the car. some cars have a red LED others have a green LED.

for a red LED, if the programming was successful the LED will flash 6 times, but if it was unsuccessful the LED will flash 18 times

for a green LED, if the programming was successful the LED will flash 8 times (i think, maybe less), but if it was unsuccessful the LED will stay on for a few seconds (8 i think?)

mine would be different the sensors are up in the top corners of the windows beside one of them is a round thing with a red light on. Its a Meta alarm and there is a little key I think it fits something in where the fuses are. Is there a way of tuning my fob in it did work but I must have left it without batteries too long when I was putting it in a new ( well an ebay one) case.

Jug , u the man :worship:, il get on to Fiat first thing monday morn when im off work. Got my logbook today so im off to get my road tax - CLEAR THE ROADS- Joker comming through.........................

The Beast , Jug , Johnson550 , iv been to Fiat and they said the car wont recognise the key fob because the alarms been turned off by the little round key near the fuseboard below right of the steering wheel, the previous owners coping a deaf un with regards to where the key is,does anyone know how to get it to turn without the key or what wires i should twist together so i can get the alarm on and sort it out with the alarm/key fob , hope you can help , many thanks.

Just a small point but I have two different Marea handbooks at home and BOTH say that the key switch is not applicable to the UK market. I know my Marea has an empty hole where the key switch would be so I would suggest that, unless your car is an import, you won't have the key switch.

I have the same problem and will be trying the suggested solution when I get the code (I don't have a code card).

Cheers
