Punto (Mk1) 1998 Mk1 Punto (Arthur)

Introduction

I absolutely adore my '98 Punto, inherited from my Grandpa. I got lucky!
My first car, very little knowledge of anything practical and car-based, but I'm gradually starting to modify bits here and there...

First addition was a towbar (so I could tow my sailing dinghy) sadly not actually fitted by myself.

Next was a shiny new stereo to replace the old tape player. I haven't quite finished that yet - I want to wire in the steering wheel controls, and I need to get an adapter for the aerial, but the sound's so much better than it was! Very happy :D

Future mods... quite fancy some angel eyes, as I'm not so keen on the orange against the blue! And they're rather pretty... maybe some new rear lights as well. I also feel like something needs doing with the wheels. But given that I know nothing, I think I need to work my way up to those various bits!
1.2L, no modifications seeing as I don't know what I'm doing! :p maybe in the future though.

May be interested in the clear indicators, but I'm not planning on spending anything until at least after Christmas! Sorry if that's not very helpful, but I'll bear you in mind, thanks :)

Would an insurer classify clear indicators as a modification?
I personally think the orange bits spoil the front end, and think they make the car look old -without them my mk1 would look new (ish) -or at least modern.

Yes and you said the reason in your post "look new (ish) -or at least modern." E.g more temping for a thief according to the insurers so yes declare them

But my insurer (Coop) say a modification is anything not originally available as an option on the car. Since these came standard on the sporting (I think) wouldn't they be allowed -as they were sort of an option?

Also, unfotunately (though understandably -it is a young driver's policy) I can't have any modifications on my policy.

Anything that is not factory fitted to your car is classed as a modification. So if yours came with the orange lens's when it came off the production line, if you change them to clear, thats a modification. Such a petty thing i know but thats the way insurance works (n)

this car hasnt been made for over 10 years there is no way an insurer would even know this car originally had orange side repeater lenses

OP do not tell insurer or they will just use the information to rob you

of course there is... old or not, the insurers will know what came off specific models on specific dates. if the clear indicators were standanrd on sportings and not other models, they would know from the chassis number. just the same as if they came into play from a certain year.... the fact that this car has yellow indicators will mean that it wasnt standard, which means the insurers will know its been changed. such a small and petty mod shouldnt affect the insurance, and if it does, change insurer....

sorry but no
even black book data doesnt go back that far so they would need to be really petty to go into their dungeon to find an old copy and wave it in the customers face
plus plenty of puntos mk1 in the run out had clear indicators i sure had plenty of them

well, prob best to agree to dissagree.
either way, always best to declare, for peace of mind knowing there isnt anything they can pick up on at least. ive even gone as far to declare some stickers on my car... least i know im covered 100% with no chance of them screwing me for something like this.

Unfortunately I can't declare mods as they refuse to insure any 'modified' car. I guess I'll stick to tack orange indicators...
