As if things couldn't get any worse!!
our 1996 fiat ducato 2.5td turbocharger has blown.(sofim engine with only done 52k from new!).........
(trundling along at 50mph,lost power and clouds of smoke out the exhaust!)
does anyone have one to sell,or put me in touch with anyone in the north east who can repair ours?
also, can anyone definitely say is the 2.8 turbo the same as the 2.5 turbo??
This is fitted on a Hymer B694 tag axle motorhome, so access isn't great!
Thanks for any help in advance.

Sounds like a failed oil seal. If you search on internat, then trere are several repaires in the North East, with Newcastle, Gateshead, and Durham being mentioned. I doubt that access will be impaired with it being an "A" class, as turbo is at rear of engine, and access will be fom underneath. The front subframe would seem to be the main impediment for access. Vehicle may need to be over a pit, or on a lift.

Having just looked on eLearn, it has the turbo and exhaust manifold removed as a unit, but ATM I cannot see why.

Hi,thanks for that.
yes there is no access at all from the top. :(
i don't know why turbo and exhaust manifold have to come off as a unit.......i'd prefer just to remove the turbo from the manifold. (if at all possible?)
I've found someone with a used turbo, reasonably priced,(with reasonable mileage, and he says no play) which may be an option. (that has been removed with the manifold as well, but with the engine already out)
i wouldn't mind, but we were on our way home from Epsom with intentions of putting this Hymer up for sale, after having viewed and purchased a much newer motorhome (a 2014 Carthago chic, which we collect possibly Wednesday ) and then this happened. :(
Has anyone removed the turbo on its own, whilst its in situ??
