I have a 1996 2.5 Turbo diesel Ducato motorcaravan with 145,000 on the clock, until lately the garages and myself used Fiat 15W 40 mineral oil as per the Handbook. At the last service they put in Pure Energy 5W 30 low ash which is a Selenia pure synthetic oil. My question is this okay, is the turbo affected. It does seem to smoke less?

You can not switch from mineral oil to full synthetic oil only after the semisynthetic full synthetic, but with this generation engine and run just semisynthetic 10W-40, I wish to multiply the cost, sorry for the spelling written by translator
As for the formation of base oil, there is a base mineral oil and synthetic here that bites into one another, semi oil is intermediate between the one and the other and is miscible with each of both mineral oil and synthetic, have to thoroughly clean it to flood the system immediately fulsynthetic,

Three years ago I would have firmly believed that this was fine but
I changed to 5w40 when we had all the snow, and my crank seal started leaking and I found this:

2.5 crankseal is the same design by the way ...

The link is interesting, although it concerns much newer engines, unbelievabley the oil was put in AFTER a £800 crankshaft seal replacement that was leaking AND having looked under the engine it may be again leaking. This could be a badly fitted seal or the oil! Having only done 150 miles I will see if it is just old oil dripping from before the seal was fitted, but return to the garage if it doesn't stop.

Do not believe in fairy tales you wash out the type of coke and so on, yes the new oil in May even better protective properties of the washing but without exaggeration, be it old iveco meringue or ducato always has performed in a problem, and the shaft seal and the seal of cortical motor block as it has combined, really at your ducato will suffice 10W-40 and if you want to look for something else cheaper Uniflo Esso 10W-40 and while it was esso in Poland all my car ran in these oils as well as the Ultra 10W-40 and the XT 401 essolube 15W-40, the latter is provided 40tys km for trucks and you can easily be used in Fiat. Uniflo 10W-40 mineral oil properties, oil semi

Thanks again moodrator yes I see what you mean the crank seal is used widely and it may be the same fault, I will go as planned though and do a bit more mileage and ensure all is clean from the outside at least, and no old dirty oil is heating up and dripping down. I cannot tell though if they cleaned the inside of the clutch housing of splattered oil which of course they should have?
