 My camper van a 1991 Ducato diesel has developed a strange clutch problem, when I parked it up in Dec it was fine however today the clutch is very slack and is about 2/3 inch below the brake pedal. When put into gear and I let the clutch pedal go the clutch plate is only just catches and I have to lift the pedal up with my foot to engage the engine. any ideas out there

Had a similar problem last year with mine, but I couldn't disengage the clutch properly. The problem is corrosion and a build up of 'clutch dust' on the gearbox shaft / driven plate splines, campers suffer because the tend not to be used over the winter. Only option is to have a new clutch fitted. There is no way of cleaning it up without splitting the gearbox / engine and if you've got that far you may as well put a new clutch in. Cost £400 but made a world of difference as it had obviously been 'dragging' for a while.

When parking up your camper depress the clutch with a piece of 2 x1 lath cut to the correct lenth and jammed against the drivers seat. This will prevent the plates from sticking with rust. To clear the problem now do hill starts and let the clutch slip while revving the engine this may clean the plates. Also when parking up leave handbrake off and chock wheels to avoid same problem with handbrake
