hi there, i had an offer for a 16v fiat coupe turbo and intercooler. I wanted to know if it is possible to fit it on my 1998 900cc cinq. If it is possible what other parts would i need? i know i will need to find a manifold, and then brakes, suspension and wheels for handling. But what about the ecu? space etc? this is going to tke alot of research and was hoping you guys could help me out a bit thanks!

y not? and thats the best thing about it, there are not many 899cc turbo cinqs so its one of a kind! plus it will be a good project for me next year. so any help would be great thanks.

beacuse the 899 engine is an ancient dog. It has been used since 1950-something!! The Fire engine is much superior, infact, its still in use today.

swapping over to the Sporting engine is not too hard if you have all the bits, and is a better starting point.

well, for a manifold, you can make a plate to fit the turbo, cut the flange off the old mani and get it welded on.

MF2's can be purchased off ebay, some ford turbos use them

yeah ok, well i wanted to use my engine as it is in good nick, its only done 20,000 miles and i have had no probs what so ever.

The 16v coupe engine fits no bother and uses the same mounts as the 899, you could do it in a day with a mate.

I am talking crap obviously, think about the logistics!

ok well ill keep researching, as i want to do this bad, if any of you have any more info please let me know, and also if i do put it in, do you know how much bhp i will get out of it? cheers.

why do people seem to think manifold at back is a bad thing? :) MR2 Turbo's have the exhaust manifold/turbo etc at the back of the engine bay, iirc manifold actually comes upwards, turbo sits above it then down for the exhaust etc :)

edit: but no wouldnt do it to a 899 :p

edit2: actually on cinq space be a issue with the manifold at back, bad enough at front :p

Would have huge cooling issues with the turbo at back of bay i should think too.. Nout to stop you building a one off starting from a sporting though, ok theres quite a few cinq turbo's out there but theres always something that can be done differently.. I mean is there a 16v turbo yet? (theres one in the making though) or look at emms NA Sei with 1.3, thats pushing nigh on 100bhp and nothing stopping you doing that and turboing it. And alex's old 1242 high boost is the only one i know of in this country.

Owning a cinq turbo i would say though that you don't really come across many others on the road, you'll still have a special car even if its the same as some of the ones on here. Personally I think the next big thing that needs developing for the cento turbo's is a gearbox as although the standard is plenty strong enough a purpose built one could utilise the power much more effectively.
