have you seen that uno on ebay he reckons hes done 160mph in his uno![]()
Dunc.tbh, mines just about on the rev limiter downhill @ 145mph on the clocks
and sumplug, ur spot on there, theres so much bullcrap flying about with UT claims. sick of reading ebay add's with "180bhp" etc.
theres hardly any UTs running near the 200bhp mark, and 200bhp out of a UT isnt as easy as people think

Dunc.
I have a lot of contact with various Fiat clubs. I have at events, people coming up to me and saying their mate has built a 250bhp Uno T in the back shed!! I get this all the time and its all cr*p!!!
Those in the know can tell you, 160bhp is the limit for a standard [engine internals] Uno T and to start going over that, requires major engine work to keep the engine reliable. Too many bolt on a bigger turbo and up the boost, then wonder why its got so much lag and overfuels, and then shortly later, empties the bottom end on the highway!!
At events, ive got used to spotting them. They walk around in twos, have long necks, bum fluff goatie beard, lots of spots, and eyebrows that meet in the middle!!!!!!
Ive yet to see an Uno T out run a friends true 160bhp Uno T around a race track. Very quick car and well sorted. Those that challanged him boasted 190+bhp and he left them far far behind on the first lap!!!!!!

I wouldn't challange him. He is a VERY experianced track racer!!yeah, there are way too many UT bull crappers out there. thats why ive done a thread on mine, to show how much effort and money it takes to get a good uno turbo with a good fast road/track spec.
as for your mates, it sound impressive. can i challenge him?lol, id still loose!

Being a skillfull driver is always gonna give you the edge no matter how many horses you got under the bonnet mate, you could have a ferrari and still lose a race if you dont know how to drive and handle the car, this doesnt mean the cars to blame but the person behind the wheel.

One thing not mentioned so far for all Uno lovers. If you wind the boost up, then you must deal with the added heat generated by the engine. Failure to do this, will cook your engine !! Seen one or two singed Turbo bonnets in the past !!

Problem with fitting a Coupe Turbo engine is added frontal weight. The 16v Turbo engine is quite a heavy thing compared to the SOHC engine. This causes huge understeer problems which is not really removeable with suspension mods. The general chassis would need seem welding and def a full front to back cage to stiffen it up. Indeed, Fiat themselves experimented with the 8v 1600 TC engine for rallying in an Uno, and abandoned it, due to the nose ploughing on through corners. The backend is so light, its difficult to transfer enough weight under braking to the rear.Renaults have generally good chassis too as do Fords and Peugeots, which is something that the old 80's tech trailing arm/McPherson strut set up in the Uno can't quite match. However I'm sure there are people on the forum that have modded and got the best out of the Uno chassis making them totally different cars than had left the factory.
In Italy there quite a few people seriously into evolving the Uno Turbo. One guy has fitted a Coupe Turbo engine to a silver MkI and called it Mostro I think. I've seen it and I think it must be capable of some high speed. It's got hundreds of horse power. Is it still an Uno though? What percentage of the original car do you need?
