General 160mph uno

General 160mph uno

hi all

have you seen that uno on ebay he reckons hes done 160mph in his uno

Ha Ha HA ha HA HA!!!!!!!!!
To do a true 160mph, he wouild need close on 350bhp or so due to aerodynamics and of course the right gearing. So he is talking boll**ks like all the wild Uno T claims.

Andy.

tbh, mines just about on the rev limiter downhill @ 145mph on the clocks

and sumplug, ur spot on there, theres so much bullcrap flying about with UT claims. sick of reading ebay add's with "180bhp" etc.

theres hardly any UTs running near the 200bhp mark, and 200bhp out of a UT isnt as easy as people think ;)

i saw this. tis actually impossible id have thought to get near 160with the gearing.

i had 144 on my clocks playing with a saab on the m5. he wasnt happy (y)

I have a lot of contact with various Fiat clubs. I have at events, people coming up to me and saying their mate has built a 250bhp Uno T in the back shed!! I get this all the time and its all cr*p!!!
Those in the know can tell you, 160bhp is the limit for a standard [engine internals] Uno T and to start going over that, requires major engine work to keep the engine reliable. Too many bolt on a bigger turbo and up the boost, then wonder why its got so much lag and overfuels, and then shortly later, empties the bottom end on the highway!!
At events, ive got used to spotting them. They walk around in twos, have long necks, bum fluff goatie beard, lots of spots, and eyebrows that meet in the middle!!!!!!
Ive yet to see an Uno T out run a friends true 160bhp Uno T around a race track. Very quick car and well sorted. Those that challanged him boasted 190+bhp and he left them far far behind on the first lap!!!!!!

yeah, there are way too many UT bull crappers out there. thats why ive done a thread on mine, to show how much effort and money it takes to get a good uno turbo with a good fast road/track spec.

as for your mates, it sound impressive. can i challenge him? :D lol, id still loose!

I wouldn't challange him. He is a VERY experianced track racer!!
One thing not mentioned so far for all Uno lovers. If you wind the boost up, then you must deal with the added heat generated by the engine. Failure to do this, will cook your engine !! Seen one or two singed Turbo bonnets in the past !!

Sumplug, i agree.

Just looking at the figures, how does he expect to get a higher top speed than the coupe, with less power? The reason i compare to the coupe, is the coupe's aerodynamic shell. The ut is like a wall in comparison. The same way a scooby with 225bhp isnt going to break 150 very easy because of its shape.

Being a skillfull driver is always gonna give you the edge no matter how many horses you got under the bonnet mate, you could have a ferrari and still lose a race if you dont know how to drive and handle the car, this doesnt mean the cars to blame but the person behind the wheel.

hehe, yeah im a track newbie! i wouldnt challenge anyone anyhow lol

see, i know what power mines running, and i know what mods have been done. 170bhp @ 18psi. will be easily past 200 now with the new goodies on and more boost. oh....and the nos for good measure lol

get pics of ur mates UT up!

Re ebay seller - this guy is an absolute *****! lol

Could have put less effort into that ebay description if he had tried!?

Tom

saw 150 on the clock in my old uno, still pulling and girlfriend made me slow down, not saying my clock was correct tho as they are always out but it was revving high as it revved to 8k if needed,
160 in that? lol no chance, on standard suspension wouldnt even try

He left them on a standing start on a long straight aka drag strip. Its not the power that counts, but the useable power and torque available throughout the rev range.
Ive driven a 200bhp Punto GT, and what a pain in the a** it was to drive quickly. No bottom end power what so ever, and it all came on stream at 4000+revs. The Clio 187 Cup i raced, had left !!

Renaults have generally good chassis too as do Fords and Peugeots, which is something that the old 80's tech trailing arm/McPherson strut set up in the Uno can't quite match. However I'm sure there are people on the forum that have modded and got the best out of the Uno chassis making them totally different cars than had left the factory.

In Italy there quite a few people seriously into evolving the Uno Turbo. One guy has fitted a Coupe Turbo engine to a silver MkI and called it Mostro I think. I've seen it and I think it must be capable of some high speed. It's got hundreds of horse power. Is it still an Uno though? What percentage of the original car do you need?

Problem with fitting a Coupe Turbo engine is added frontal weight. The 16v Turbo engine is quite a heavy thing compared to the SOHC engine. This causes huge understeer problems which is not really removeable with suspension mods. The general chassis would need seem welding and def a full front to back cage to stiffen it up. Indeed, Fiat themselves experimented with the 8v 1600 TC engine for rallying in an Uno, and abandoned it, due to the nose ploughing on through corners. The backend is so light, its difficult to transfer enough weight under braking to the rear.

Agreed!! its like sticking an ut engine in a cinq the car is rubbish to drive around corners because of the added weight at the front from the heavier engine. I think i saw a punto GT on ebay recently with a coupe engine fitted aswell.

I had my Red MK1 upto an indicated 130mph. it probably could have gone faster but really, when the turns on a motorway feel tight, you know your going too fast :p

Had my yellow mk2 upto 110mph chasing Alex22 on the M1 on the way to stanford last year. he then pulled over and I sailed upto 120 before easing off and spitting flames out the exhaust :D

160mph in an uno? The standard box gearing would allow it.
