I recently decided that I'm going to be getting some alloy wheels for my 2002 Punto Active Sport. I've done some reading around the forums and read that 17" alloy wheels don't run so well, in comparison to 16" alloy wheels.

So I was wondering, what do you think would better suit my car - 16"'s or 17"'s?

17" wheels kill the gearbox in puntos, pop the shafts and generaly cause alot of problems so go for 16s
I guess that pretty much means I can't have 17"'s. To what extent will 16"'s cause damage to the Punto in comparison to say 15"'s? Are 16"'s alright on a Punto?

yeah 16's max really, people have got 17's on there puntos, but eventually get issues, it starts by rubbing your arche liners away, then rubs through that and rub on the gear box, they also SLOOOOOOOOOWWWWW the car down and with yours being an 8 valve, well it would be probably quicker to drive a snail...

ive had 17" on my 1.2 punto for a couple of years now....not had 1 problem besides it rubs on the arch on full lock, ive also lowered it 35mm!

i think 17's all the way mate!

you will.... in due time

only time will tell i guess, but after this long and the box is still as tight as a virgin!!!

i do keep on top of the car though check thhe gear box oil every service ect, but i will not lie i know of others who havent lasted with 17's but i put that down to there driving!!

its a 1.2 at the end of the day not a F1 car, as long as you treat it good, you should be ok!

voted 16's although myself would probably go for 15's.. I just don't understand why it is people thikn bigger wheels look good, i tend to think they just look out of place. Thats coming from the man with 15's on his cinq but in my defense i bought it like that and they will be changed ;)

I had mine surgically reduced from 17" to 16" but the missus can't really tell the difference.

17s are fine.
Had a set on for about 6months, never scraped atall & couldn't tell the difference in the ride.
then got another set & had them for about a month & were great:D

16s are a waste of money
