15" vs 17" Performance

15" vs 17" Performance

no probs, there use to be a better 1 but cant remember the site, just a handy lil tool for all

Also, whether you go fot the 1.8 petrol, or 1.9 multijet, the HGT is a quick car, so if you do lose a bit of performance, will it matter that much?
very valid point there.... am convinced it'll be 17s methinks!

ok, 15" standard Fiat alloys in height are 584.5mm
205/40 17's which i have on my car are 595.8mm

so only 11.3mm difference

And cheers housty for thre link

There may only be what seems a slight difference in height between the two wheels but the thing that doesnt help is unsprung weight, there will be more weight traveling round in circles which requires more effort to shift due to all the weight of the extra metal of the alloy.

Best way i can decribe it is by using a mountain bike or racing bike, usually one of the first things to upgrade are the wheels, a nice lightweight set of wheels will make you faster and more efficent, and it is quite noticeable on a mountain bike with one man power.

Also take a note of what it does to your speedo if you do get big wheels, usually if the difference in height is small your speedo will read closer to its true mph (since most speedo's are out by around 10% as standard) but if your wheels and tyres have a more substantial difference then you may be going faster than your speedo is letting on

yeah less revolutions over the same distance as the wheel takes longer to turn

thats why i always got 60/30/20 through speed cameras

you people in glasgow won know what a speed camera is because, well, glasgow doesnt seem to have ANY. think i might have seen one the whole time ive been in glasgow and it was on some random road, it was like a dark orange too :S

well now I'm all the more confused!!!
can you not get your speedo adapted to make up for the difference in speed? and critically, what kind of damage is most likely to occur realistically?
Fel like I'm going round in circles lol...biggest dilemma ever!!

hrmm im sure u can get it adjusted, but it really isnt worth doing it. i tihnk it costs quite a lot u see. and basically, bigger wheels will make a lot of things wear down faster (suspension, general engine etc) but its not really going to affect you for a few years :p

but its not really going to affect you for a few years

and by that time I should have something else....
think it'll be the 17s.... should do as I please now and sell the consequences later then

Opinions?

17" Stilo abarth wheels are lovely, do they fit the punto though i thought the tyre fitment was too wide? but this may be me talkin bullshit... if they fit then that would be stunning cause they are amazing wheels... kinda want 17" wheels with all this talkbut already got some 15" lol

the Stilo wheels i was considering, but they are VERY expensive new, we are talking £760 odd WITHOUT tyres.

Also if you pick up a 2nd hand set off a Stilo, you will need to change the tyres as they come with 215/ 45 17s and a Punto can only take 205/ 40 17's.

There is a boy in Dundee who has they exact wheels on a blue mk2 Sporting and thy look well nice.

Not a fan of the Punto abarth wheels though. U seen the multispoke ones you get? they are a lot nicer imo

will be gutted if fitment ruins my options!
the 15s appear to be the little brother version.

you seen the other Stilo abarth wheels?

These were the ones i was after, but far too expensive and a bit of a bugger to find them in that shadow chrome colour too
