Anyone read the bit in this months AI about the 130JTD??

Wasn't that the most pointless article ever? Basically for those who have not read it one of the guys at AI has a 130 weekend. He was going to have it remapped ages ago but hit some problems. This months writeup basically said he had it rolling roaded but it only had about 100bhp due to a MAF sensor issue which he knew it already had. Then he says he's got the MAF replaced and hopes for some big numbers when it's remapped..

Well how about writing it once you know eh? I've seen better articles in single posts on this forum. So glad I hadn't paid to read it.

Nah, been meaning to post about it for ages. I had high hopes ever since the guy bought it and was going to have work done and a big map.

But instead we get an article basically saying "when it was broken it wasn't at original power". Oh really? I would never of guessed. If they're going to sell the mag to Fiat owners they need better articles. It's a nice bright red Weekend - same colour as yours Beast - which would look great over 2 pages with a full writeup of original power, then what has been done with power/torwue curves and maybe some test track times to get an idea of how that affects the drive. Does the power become too much for the chassis? Are the brakes upto task? (I can tell you on normal map after a few minutes of Yorkshire Dales I had soft brakes!)

Comon AI.. You nearly had a sale there but the piece was so small and contained so little real info I thought I might as well read the technical section of the Marea section. It's bigger, has more info and is a lot more in touch with real life than AI.

poor AI, they've obviouly tried to respond to requests for features on affordable cars, but they still aint getting it right.

Problem is they don't know how they want to report on these things.

Do they try the Top Gear approach? Do they go all stats and figures?

If they're going to have a project car then they need a project. Something where they can show progress with definite aims and goals for each month. Getting a JTD130 remapped isn't a project. It's a single tweek which would have shown the MAF to be faulty at the time of the remap. They should have got it fixed then had the map put on - then write the article.

If I wrote a report at work which ended with "I ran into problems and hope to see improvements once they're fixed" my first question from management would be "so is it done yet, and if so why not? Why waste our time with an incomplete report?"

P.S. Do you think they'll let me into Stanford this year if they read this? :D ;)

my boss would say "you're so fuct when the directors read this" and then laugh at me.

You mean "I knew there were problems but carried on, unfortunately as there were problems i did not get accurate results. I expect once i fix the problems i will get accurate results..."

Dont think my boss would be too happy with that, why not sort the problems and then run it and deliver the results at the next meeting? ie next issue, or pull finger out in magazine world, 1 month = fit maf sensor and RR session is easily attainable
