Just got my 500D on a ramp with new tuned 126 engine. Looking to fit these Gearbox stabilising brackets, standard on 126s , but do not have an actual one in my hand. Whilst the vehicle is on the ramp, would like to know from anyone who has fitted these, what dimensions, and location of holes/ any pics very useful, thanks

I always think of this item as the torsion plate and that is what it is called in the 126 manual. To fit one as quite a few have when fitting the larger engines you either need to drill the gearbox cross member for the torsion plate bolts or use a ready drilled 126 part. Then you can use the torsion plate as a guide for drilling up into the tunnel. Most people have fitted a reinforcing plate in the tunnel, like a large washer.
I probably have a spare plate and cross member in my refurbished parts if you need one.

Are you thinking of fitting a support bracket to cure clutch judder? I have a 1962 500D with original engine and gearbox and suffer from clutch judder. To date I’ve fitted 2 new complete clutches, replaced the spigot bearing, new gearbox mounts and ensured the clutch cable is secured correctly to the gearbox case. The only thing I’ve not done is have the flywheel resurfaced but it looks good to me. I likewise am considering the fitting of a stabilising bracket and would be interested on how you got on fitting one and any benefits gained.
