hi all

just wondering if anyone if has any tips for tuning the 1108 without turbocharging it, i do want to go down the turbo route at some point but im interested to see what you can get from the 1108 na.

cheers
jay

assuming cinq here;

gsr induction kit
mckrich chip
supersprint backbox
40mm tricker tb
p75 cam
supersprint exhaust manifold

yeah its a cinq arc, im just wondering if similar results can be achieved between the turboed and na tuned cinq (im guessing its a fair bit cheaper to na tune the cinq)

Id say incorrect. I could have bought a turbo kit for cheaper than i have just bought a camshaft for. Why i didnt buy the kit i do not know, i wish i did:rolleyes:

 i didnt expect that!!! who does the turbo kit these days? tbh brooky im a big fan of na tuned cars (the old strada abarth was one of my faves) and i just presumed (obviously wrong ) that it would be cheaper to go na

To get turbo horsepower out of a n/a engine costs alot, i know, im doing it now for my rally cinq.

You can have a nice n/a setup for cheap with second hand parts(y)

Not a hope in hell, I'm afraid. Fit a 1.4 16v engine and you'll still be 20bhp short of the best 1108 tub. Tune the 1.4 (expensive!) and you'll pretty much be there. But the 1.4 16v makes for a much easisier to drive and more practical car. Getting 100bhp/litre from a NA 8v motor is bloody difficult.

100hp from a 1242 8v shouldn't be a problem, but you'll get a very rev happy engine that while far from hard to drive will need to be worked to make it sparkle.

I had 95bhp/92lbft from a 1242cc 8v MPI with a C&B 268 cam, CSC sports manifold, 'sports' cat, supersprint cat-back exhaust, BMC CDA based induction kit, large throttle body & remap. I then had had the head worked over for mid-range without being skimmed aggressively which gave another 3bhp & reduced peek torque 4lbft but pushed it down from 4200 to 3100 rpm.

I then put a P75 cam in that engine and turned it into a low-boost engine giving 110bhp and 115lbft at 2800 rpm. Oddly I still think the N/A setup was easier to drive on a day to day basis, just not as quick.

n/a means normally aspirated, ie just an air filter attached to the carburettor or throttle body and no turbo or supercharger.

StoneNewt, around how much did you end up spending before adding the turbo?

theres no replacement for displacement.... as far a N/A go when trying to get power

thing is when you start tuning a N/A engine your not really increasing the overall power you are just moving the power to where you want (sorta).
youll end up with an engine that has no power...no power....no power.... VROOOOM....
good for track use where you are always going for it (keeping it in the rev range you tuned it for) pretty crap for road use

turbos/super chargers keep the engine itself it a pretty standerd state of tune. and should have power over a much wider range of rpm then a NA engine of same size and power
