Hi everyone

My 100hp came originally with the goodyear 195/45 f1 tyres, and have been replaced with some fairly rubbish bog standard ones.. Came about after hitting a BIG pot hole.

Wheres the best place for to buy the originals? I still have a set of goodyears on the back with the new tyres on the front and at higher speeds their lacking grip whilst the back still feels stable...not good!

Cheers

Their Runway Enduro 916's?! Wasn't very pleased because i wanted the originals and they just stuck those on without really telling me!

Why did you allow them to fit TDF's on it?

When you go to a tyre place it's upto you what tyres are fitted to your car but obviously you need to ask for a specific tyre.

Ask for F1 GSD3's.

I've now switched to Yoko S-Drives, purely because I prefer S-Drives over F1's.

I'd get rid of those crappy tyres and get F1s or at least something equivalent.

I guess this is the sort of thing that happens when you are 18. :p

Black circles are £50 odd i think, which is a good price, i reckon i've had 3 sets of F1's on mine now, itching to try something different but always come back to Fiat having choose this rubber for the car and that i'm so used to how the car behaves on them, i've been looking at conti sport contact 2's or michelin exaltos, but £200 odd is alot to spend if only to find out the cars worse than on F1's..

Try S-Drives. Not hideously more expensive than F1s, around the same sort of price-ish too. Plus they are not Toyo's. (y)

Yea maybe, i would have gone for Parada spec 2's but as usual not much is available in 195/45.. we've got Toyo T1R's on the griff and i have to say they seem pretty good but just don't really appeal to me for some reason lol, thik i might give the contis a go!

Ah balls, i'm sticking with F1's, just been on www.tyrereviews.co.uk trawling through whats available in 45/15, it would seem GSD3's are still in the top 10.. all the others i was considering seem to get less consistant reviews

Hi TDQ,

How have you found the S-drives to affect ride and gearing? Are the sidewalls softer/harder and shorter/taller than the F1s?

The reason I'm asking is that I've made a dire mistake when I replaced my F1s. Over here, they were going for nearly twice the price of any competing tyres and while price wasn't the issue, I did a bit of research on comparative performance between the F1s and Hankook Ventus V12s. Sadly, the Ventus is only available 195/50/15. I took a calculated gamble, figuring the 5% taller profile and 3% increased roll-out would not affect the car much.

Boy, was I wrong. Sluggish performance, TERRIBLE fuel consumption and a ride that can best be described as "wobbly".
The first two are no doubt thanks to the engine's modest power and torque outputs, while I've attempted to fix the ride by running harder pressures - a move that has helped a bit, but made the primary ride a lot more skittish over broken surfaces.

Anyway, I just want to know if the S-drives as similar to the F1s in physical terms. Thankfully I only have 1 000km on the Hankooks, so I'll sell them on the cheap to recoup some of my schoolfees. I'll be going with the S-drives if they're similar to, and as good as, the F1s.

Remember kids (and I knew this all along): the manufacturers don't just fit any old tyre from the lowest bidder. Just bite the bullet and fit the OE tyres, or at least ones that are the same size.

The S-Drives have stiffer sidewalls than the jelly like F1s, which I prefer. In respect of grip, they are very similar, though offer perhaps a tad more dry grip, but might lose out slightly in the wet, though they remain predictable and progressive in the way they let go.

I prefer S-Drives over F1s mainly due to a stiffer sidewall as they don't round the shoulders off so easily and the S-Drive is very square on the shoulder if you know what I mean. I don't track my car, but I did take out the 100hp for a quick little test round Anglesey and the tyres were absolutely useless within 3 laps (that's about 3 miles!), so just in case the 100hp ever gets another track opportunity I went for S-Drives as I know from previous experience (had them on my old BMW when the tyres first came out) that they handle abuse far better.

I've still got the original F1s on the rear, I will replace them with S-Drives if they wear out whilst the car is still in my hands.

Pricewise there isn't that much difference really. Not noticed any difference in fuel economy.

Great, thanks.

I'll opt for the S-drives in 45 profile. Over here they're roughly R900 (£80) a tyre, while the F1s are R1420 (£128) each.

Would love to get the F1s again, since they were great when I had them. They lasted 28 000 miles, which I was very impressed with.

Try looking on the various tyre sites, get them as a fitted price, then off you trundle to the nearest fitting centre. Job done. (y) That's exactly what I did.

I recently had two new fronts on my 100HP and paid only £60 each for them when I ordered and paid online with Kwik Fit. Which I thought was good as other places I rang wanted at least £75.
