Hi

I have a headlight bulb out. Tried to do it myself but can't fit my habds in to remove the old one. Fiat want the cost of one hours labour to do the job. When I asked why she told me that the front bumper had to come off! Surly this is wrong when the manual say yo can do it yourself?

Anyone else been able to change there's?

Its a 1.9 Mjet if that makes a difference!

What a load of sh*te that dealer is feeding you! You should speak to FIAT about them as charging an hour at main dealer rates to replace a light bulb is daylight robbery (good thing at that, as with no lights you won't see them robbing you in the dark anyway!). And after that I bet they still charge you the money for the part which probably cost them a couple of quid...

All I did was pop down to Halfords, buy bulbs and ask the man in the black and orange shirt to fit them for me. A small amount of money later and I could see again! :D

Yeah, I will speak to FIAT. I went to halfords, they tried and just could not fit the bulb!

I thought it would be easy after I managed to change my old meganes bulb! That even involved removing the wheel!

The guy in Halfords did have a bit of trouble fitting them, I have to be honest. But he managed it in the end.

I am sure you'll get fed up of touring them, but is there another branch near you which will have another go? Another option may be going to a small local garage.

I have changed mine by myself.

You remove the rubber cap behind the headlight and you then you have to unplug the socket and raise a spring that holds the bulb.

Although can't say it was very easy,as it took a lot time to remove the socket.
It was very "stiff" an the whole bulb was moving when I was trying to remove it...

Name and shame please!

This dealer needs to hang its head in shame, I changed both of mine a couple of weeks ago, OK its awkward, but if I can do it anybody can.

took me two minutes to change both of them. my bulbs hadnt gone but i wanted a brighter bulb to get rid of the yellow colour from it. they're spring loaded in and its so easy i did it in the dark with a torch. fiat are having a laugh if they want any money the least they could do is give you the right instruction for removing it instead of having to remove the bumper

is that a 1.9 mjet though? I'd pay to see someone do an mjet in 2 mins, its fiddly as

Lol Yeah. Alot easier in a 1.2 active. You can stand in the engine bay to do it :p

Tbh, I didn't find it that hard to change the bulbs. It was harder in the GF's Fiesta, as I was adamant I was not going to remove the airbox!

Dealers operate a business and are in it to make money, not provide a public service and like most businesses at the moment they will be desperate for work. An hours labour is a minimum charge, any less and it probably wont be worth them doing it. Anyway, why all the fuss? its not like you are being forced to pay it. If you are not happy with the quote do what everyone else does and vote with your feet.
This will put a perspective on it, I was dealing with an Engineering consultant last week who was charging my employers £180 an hour for his services. Thats £1 per 20 secs
