Newbie here! I have a 2001 y-reg fiat ducato 1.9td and the speedo works/does not/works, not more than does! As a techno-numpty I am proud to say I have found the cable at both ends... is it easy to remove it from the speedometer end? its easy enough at the bottom end but I am reticent about the dashboard part.... also, is there a fuse or a `widget` I can remove as I will be touring (its a motorhome) Europe soon, so that It will be harder to nick?
ANY help appreciated. Thanks.

Hi wheelrim. Did you get your speedo fixed? I had exactly the same problem with my Y plate camper on a 1.9 TD Ducato. It turned out that the drive gear in the gearbox had slid along the shaft and was not meshing with the gear on the end of the speedo cable assembly. The plastic speedo gear is on the RH driveshaft output shaft from the diff, and should have clips that lock it into the gear itself. On mine, the clips had presumably not been fitted correctly at build, and the gear had crept along the shaft until it failed to mate with the cable gear. It also went through a period of sometimes working, before it totally packed up.
It was very tricky manouvering it back along the shaft, and clicking it into place, working through just the hole where the cable gear assembly is removed from, looking in a mirror in order to be able to see it, with a tiny LED inspection light in the hole, and using a small screwdriver! (And of course, you have to drain the gearbox oil first, before you remove the cable drive assembly.)
Hope that helps.
