1.9 JTD warm-up

The oil it thicker and cant oil the cylinders like it does when its warm. Istead of plunging in hot oil, it goes through the oil like a hot knife through butter and dont spray it proper. Easyer said, you burn your piston rings that way, specialy the oil rings

Dave, thats odd, I left our Sprinter at work idling for 40 minutes odd and it never got above the 40deg mark...think its f*cked though tbh, done 148000 miles on an 02 reg :-S


The bravo warms up in about 2 miles driving, so about what it should be doing.

Yes my jtd takes approx 2 miles of driving before it starts to warm up 4 miles later near work im super warm,my father has a toyota yaris 1.4d4 diesel and he has been moaning his takes ages to warm up ! but i told him a 2 mile journey at 1degree C is not enough to warm the engine fully!Most diesels are similar but not all,my mates citroen c3 hdi warms up much quicker than my bravo.

tested mine today....

From cold start 8am... driving throught the gears but not reving above 2,000rpm... took 1.9miles untill the heater was blowing fairly warm air... temp gauge 1/4 & rising... 3miles temp gauge was at 1/2 and hot air blowing through.


I drive short roads, start stop for 2miles.. then a lovely 60mph road so as soon as i get there the air gets lovely and hot very quickly!


After 4miles I have to turn the climate from Hi to 22 degs, cos it's far too hot!!!

yeah are sprinters on a 55 plate done about 30,000 i think but it wasn't idling I was driving it from time it was started to the time it stoped and most of the time it was on 3000rpm

My Dad has a citroen picasso 1.6HDI and I just drove it for 24miles,

mostly 60mph roads it tock the first 5 miles to warm up.. that was about 25mins

Lee just remembered that the 40 C mark on the sprinter is the bottom...

40 mins of idiling and it never got of the bottom.. you certain the gadge works lol
