Hi All

We have a 1.9 JTD Multijet which has a misfire and has a odd resonance to it. We took the injectors to a local specialist but the were all okay. They reckoned it has a inlet valve out.

My dad parked it up for now as there are more pressing projects. Any way he was talking to a bloke who asked what was happening with the van and my Dad told him. He said hmmm and said he'd seen that before and it was hydraulic tappets which had gone solid.

I'm intrigued by this as somewhere in my memory I seem to recall something like this happening with an old Range Rover V8. Has anyone ever heard of seized or solid tappets on the 1.9 Multijet, assuming them even have hydraulic tappets?

Many thanks

I know of an escort and my old Nissan that have done it, with the escort we took them out and squeezed them in a vice, with the Nissan I only replaced the offending ones cos they were £70 each and had 24 of them :(
Might be worth changing them,
The Nissan's were a common fault but the escort relief valve had jammed shut over pressurising them so might be worth doing an oil pressure check.

Interesting. I'll have to get him to run it up and check the clearances and see if anything obvious shows up.
