Hi first post here so please bare with me - not up on cars (sorry).
I have a family multipla 1.9JTD on a 53 reg. The problem is i can start the car ok but when at low revs say at a junction and i try to pull away there is nothing there under the excellerator, i press the peddle and nothing but it picks up slowly itself after a little while and i start to pull away. Twice it actually wouldnt turn over and sounded very throaty and sputtery. (I got a parking ticket for leaving it at the side of road after break down but won my case after proof) oops back to thread. So ive took the motor to a specialist diesel garage and after all the threads ive read on your forum it seemed it keeps coming back to this EGR fault. I rang the garage to tell them about this and they listened but they discounted it! They seem to think that a pipe has softened and air is getting in and the fuel is draining back into the tank some how, then builds back up and the car picks up. What do you think - It went in already at a cost of £276 and its still doing the same thing so they are repairing it free of charge excluding parts of coarse.
So if the garage is discounting - Crank case sensor, EGR, MAF, MAP what would be my next step!! Oh once on the dash board it came up as Alternator problem when it wouldnt start. but i seriously doubt it. It has to be fuel related dosnt it???
Any help is appreciated.

well if your alternator is knackered or your battery the car can just die, mate had a multi and it kept throwing up all sorts of codes and it turned out to be the battery.
Id assume your garage would have checked for this allready though really.

Assume nothing!

Hi,
Could be the vent on the tank. They should have done a pressure test on the diesel rail already! Well if they know what there doing.

A quick test to see if it's the egr is to run the engine then (out of gear) floor the throttle - this should clear the stuck EGR valve. The AA man told me to do this and it worked albeit temporarily.

I've had the same trouble which turned out to be the EGR valve - anyone know where I could get a new one and how much would it cost?

Ok just an update. I had it in again as mentioned and they sent the injectors to a specialist and they came back ok but to place them back new copper seals had to go on. Ive never had a problem since - so a two new pipes and lots of sensor cleaning and new copper seals on the injectors and £380 later its ok.

Saga is now over and my next thread is already upon another problem Hmmm! cars eh, tsk!
