i Currenlty own a 1.8 HLX bravo and want summat with more speed, so was looking at a Bravo HGT. How much different's is there between the 2??? i no the 1.8 is about 113bhp and the HGT is 155bhp. Is it worth the swap or just wait for a coupe 20vt???

FYI 30bhp is a fair amount plus check the torque differences

41 extra horses (y)

I have never driven the 1.8 so cant compare, only the 1.6 and 1.2, so obviously there just dont comparable.

If your looking to buy a coupe 20vt then i would suggest saving all your pennies for that. If your not then i'm sure the HGT will put a big smile on your face for yrs to come.

i owned a 1.8HLX bravo, and if i be honest i raced more than one HGT. the difference was very noticable.

lets compare book figures.

113 HLX 120mph 9.7secs 34mpg
147 HGT 130mph 8.2secs 28mpg
155 HGT 132mph 7.7secs 30mpg

if you want a bravo then the mk2 HGT is definately the pick of the bunch, noticably better fuel economy and peformance than the mk1 HGT. if you can afford the insurance and petrol then go for it.

in comparison to a coupe 20vT the HGT is a much cheaper car to own, but the coupe is a lot faster and more fun so if you can afford it then get the coupe instead. there's always a better car out there, its more a question of deciding your buying and running cost budget and then getting the best car that is within budget. a coupe is generally an expensive car to own as far as running costs are concerned, they are bargain buys these days but you need to remember that running costs haven't fallen in the same way as purchase prices. buy the wrong coupe and you'll pay.

what would be my choice? coupe 20v, its the half way point between the HGT and 20vT, you get a proper car without paying turbo money. or even better get an alfa gtv 2.0TS, its a tad quicker than the 20v coupe and even uses less petrol, plus the twinspark remaps better to give even bigger gains. the gtv interior is also more modern than the coupe. and then there's the badge :D

MK1 hygt all the way better for tuning but as everybody else has said if ure wanting a coop then just wait but if you just want a fast car and like superchargers then MK1 hgt all the way, ive raced loads of 1.8's and to be honest there is no comparison what so ever a completely different ketle of fish.

my first hgt on the other hand was an absolute animal and at 190+ bhp would leave my mate in his coop gobsmacked as he could never pull away but that was at its limits tuning wize although a rapid car was never going to get any quicker unless big big money was spent. all about personal taste and needs

This is an issue that comes up fair bit lol. people say go straight for the turbo because the N/A wont make too much difference. The 20v engine is like night and day compared to the 1.8 it wont feel low down hugely faster but it is look at the speedo and you will be doing 15mph faster than what you'd believe. The coupe turbo however is mind bogglingly fast especially with stage 1 mods. And after a 1.8 will scare you lol. (y)

But there is another option, which i wish i could afford to do!;)

Buy the MK2 HGT, keep it for a while and save up some peenys, then drop the 20vt engine it it!(y) (y)

A practical performance car!:slayer:

God i wish i had the money!

having owned a HLX and a coupe (although a 16VT) and now a HGT, the HGT as already mentioned feels and is much faster than the HLX (not to mention the engine note)!

A 20VT however much faster than the HGT, with a HGT you already have the performace of a 20v n/a coupe not to mention much more of a sleeper, having said that i would have a 20VT in a flash:D

I would make sure you can afford to buy, insure, run, and regularly maintain a 20VT coupe before shelling out on one, if not then go for the HGT

There is not a huge amount of weight difference between a coupe 20v N/A and an HGT 80kg to be exact. I own or have regular access to, an HGT a 20v coupe a marea 20v and a coupe 20VT amongst other cars. To be honest between the coupe 20v N/A and the HGT there is nothing in it performance wise other than stock the coupe is a better handling car and looks and feels a million times nicer. However if its a sleeper you want as mentioned above then the Bravo HGT is awesome. With a 20VT engine and dressed to look like a 1.2 on 16's to clear the Brembos it would be a hell of a lot of fun. Although you could fit the flat pack furniture from Ikea in it it will still cost a lot to maintain.
no different to a 20v turbo coupe.
