where do i start testing for the fault when my 1.6 wont start with no fault codes showing?
the engine turns with the starter and occasionaly tries to fire up but it just cant make it.?
I've tried reading lots of similar threads and tought it's Time to ask for help, i'm at it a week now and have tried changing most of the engine controls for ones from a spare 1.6 that i bought that was running.
after finding low compression readings i also changed the head gasket/cyl head!
the battery is 2 months old and reading 12.7v at standstill.
all 4 spark plugs are sparking and the plugs seem to be slightly wet when removed.

Good news,i got it running,
but the bad news is that it is still troublesome,Cutting out irregularly while running rough.
i fooled it by attaching a warmed up CTS as i presumed it was running rich, then it started. The day it started the trouble i had got a new exhaust fitted as it had been leaking and so i presumed my mixture wasn't right.

Hi again, does anyone here know what the fuel pressure should be,I found mine to be 3.5bar..?
the car is starting okay now but i have a very uneven tickover,it's lumpy and the rev's are constantly rising and dipping.
when i umplugged the map sensor the freeze frame data showed the LTFT @ 4.5 and the STFT @ 33.5.This explains the revving/dipping but i checked for manifold/vacumn leaks and found none so i thought maybe the fuel system.?
Any help welcome...

I dunno moosh.. SFTP and DTFP... What's that? :D

If the beast is getting benzina and has sparks then it should start.. which your has.

To keep it running needs the ECU to know what's happening in there.

If the idle is a bit shonky, then we're in the realms of the Idle Control Valve. Have you given your beast a good clean (or measured it's voltages)?

Also fiddling with idle is the Lambda sensor.. but that only starts to do anything above idle.. so it may be worth checking that too.

3.5bar is where it should be

I managed to sort out my engine trouble which was hunting/revving unevenly/erratic idle/poor idle/cutting out,
Long story short - one of my camshaft pully bolts was (slightly)loose and so i had slightly incorrect valve timing caused by the belt being out by a few degrees.
i found it by removing coil and plug from cyl 1 and turning the eng to TDC but when i checked for the two blue marked teeth on the camshaft pully's through the removable cover between the cams,I found that one blue mark was lining up and the other wasn't. so i double checked with the camshaft locking tools.
Basically i had to follow the timing belt replacing guide along with repositioning the camshaft sprockets/pullys
it took quite a while to line them all up again but now its back in good running order again,
Thanks to all the usual helpers/members as all info in between the lines of all the threads is really helpful.
