Hello everyone cheers for reading this i currently have 1.6 stilo xbox edition 05 plate black. Personally i think it's one of the best lookin cars around i always get people looking at it asking what it is becuase i have debadged it. So i have decided to make a project for myself with the help of my dad brain box with cars. I have around £2,500 to spend been saving the cash , was going to buy new car but been thinking i would rather have a car that not many people have.

So then the main question can the 1.6 be turbo'd? or has anyone done it before? more importantly how much do you think it will cost? been reading around gettin information off people they say around 2k+.

Just wondering what you guys think, is it worth doing? or should i go buy an audi TT?

Cheers Dave(y)

Dont buy an Audi TT unless you're a hairdresser!!

You could just get an Abarth, or Schumi GP?

I'd agree with that, values of 5 cylinder stilos took a big hit with the annoucement of the new (now postponed) tax rules also they aren't exactly frugal so its not hard to pick one up...Tbf for 500 quid less than your turbo budget heres a whole working car. 170 bhp not bad at all...

Its been done by a guy in greece. Nikos or something on this forum, i cant quite remember. 2500 isnt enough.

Its been done by many of the greek forum members and not an easy one to do in this country ..£2,500 wont get you far for a project like that one [see Dax's thread]..need to change the gearbox as well if you dont want continual blow jobs..my advice is ..if you want more power trade the car for some thing else..:)

A few pics for you..

You need the Punto GT box which isnt easy to come by and not a straight forward fit around the bellhousing to engine..

you could keep the normal box just need an upgraded clutch if you dont take it above lets say 160 hp. Anything above either you will need the interior of the gearbox strenghthened or go for a gt box to be sure the 1.6 box in 4th tends to blow under pressure from anything above 160-180 hp. Prices in greece for turboing it well and not a dodgy job goes for about 5,000 euros.

Oh and by the way stay tuned we got 3 projects going on in greece. 3 members already bought 3 abarths from germany brought the whole lot for parts interchanged everything and are now running abarth engines. One already has very good tuning results just by chipping and exhaust at about 200 hp. Another is going for a turbo add on and another is going for a rotrex kompressor add on. With the turbo or kompressor they reckon at about 260 hp who knows maybe more ;)

I reckon you could get 160-170 BHP without a turbo speak to Oldschool from GSR he could point you in the right direction. (y)

they are what 100ish bhp as standard and you think they can gain 60+bhp off a few bits of basic NA tuning?

Easily possible mine is running about 130 bhp 116ft Just using an induction kit and a remap.

I managed to ruin the reverse gear before it had 15000 miles on the clock. :D
At the end of the day if you push the Stilo then the gear box will go so if you want to tune the car then you need to have a back up plan for when the box does go.

Mine is that the gearbox was taken apart whilst under warrenty and the reverse gear changed so if the box go's any time in the near future then they obviously should have replaced the whole thing last time so even though it is out of warranty they can change the damn thing. :D

I think the expression goes - "not a hope in hell!"

130bhp seems very optimistic from a 1.6 but I think it can be said for certain that no warranty company will entertain a claim if you've modded the car even slightly (whether in warranty or not) :(

Well i have had the gearbox done before but without the remap. You wont believe what you can get away with nowadays and i can be very persuasive. Fiat did try and pull the modified card out and i told them to stop being so stupid you can only invalidate the warranty if it can be proven to be causing the particular problem in the case of the box they cant.

ATM the car is running around 125 bhp actually, because i am loosing a wee bit of power possibly through the cat as i had a weld done on it as the front of the pipe came away.
My car did run 118bhp from standard though :D
