My Stilo has always sounded a bit rough for the first few seconds on a cold start and reading some threads I see that it is a common thing. Just recently, on a cold start, you can feel the car shaking and rattling for about 20 secs and then it goes away. Mechanic says the head gasket needs doing, skimming and replacing. He says that the water level is low and that it is getting into the engine. I feel that a car with about 60000 miles on it should not require this work yet...anybody else had to have the head gasket done on an 03 Stilo?

No, but my Bravo went at less than that. Equally unimpressed, esp as even FIAT said I should flog it afterwards as "they're never the same and it'll only go again."

Blew the gearbox to bits and is now a dog muck bin on the local park.
