General 1.6 Sedici a few questions

Am really tempted by a Sedici (looking at the 1.6 petrol version) done the maths and i can afford to run and insure it,

Figure it would fit into my life style a bit more than the GP with the longitudinal roof bars do a bit of mountain biking and the i assume off road suspension set up will be a boon as work is down a long rough old ww2 bomber base run way which it potholed to hell not to mention camping it will get a towbar if i get one......


What are the service intervals i think i have seen somewhere its 9k mile? whats involved in that service (oil filter and diff oil?)

is it a cam belt or chain (if from what i have read its a suzuki lump) and if so what is the interval and is it a big job if it is a belt)?

is it fitted with hydraulic power steering or Electric ?


any common faults to look out for on a test drive or when looking round?

just gearing up to have a look at first and arrange a test drive or two

whats the main differences in spec across the range? dont really want alloys as if it gets used as nature intended they will look shabby in next to no time


any other pointers great fully received

have toyed with the panda 4x4 but the extra space appeals

I have the 1.6 and am very pleased
chain driven twin ohc
needs revving to get best performance
later models have 88kw engine previously 78kw ensure you get the former
38-41 mpg seems to be same as 1.9 diesel version but no DPF
service intervals minimal and easy DIY
identical with SX4 as made by Suzuki in Hungary but note only certain SX4's are 4x4
electric power steering
best model would be the new 1.6 PSA diesel powered SX4 if it were available as a 4x4 which it isnt...

roadholding, snow performance, ride and comfort are outstanding, I bought a set of suzuki wheels and fiited winter tyres and swap for the winter...

Any photos with those SX4 wheels Tim!?!
I've noticed some of the UK dealers are ditching Sedici options for nothing on fleabay.
Theres a full set of the Option alloys there at the moment for only £100!!

Andy - theres only two trim levels :
Dynamic (non colour-coded roof-rails/mirrors/bumper protectors - No Climate Air-Con - No steering wheel controls for the stereo etc.)
And Eleganza which has all of those plus Alloys.........

Our 1.6 has done about 35k under us - Only two issues were a leaky Air-Con pipe which I changed myself (loads of room) and had regassed and a rear wheel bearing (they come as a complete hub assembly (£250 from Fiat!)

Thats it! We service every 12k - its been perfect...... and brilliant off-road / in the snow.

Italian design with Japanese engine/electrics - whats not to like!

from what i have been reading suzuki dealers seem to do better price wise on parts?

be handy having 2 dealer networks to play off

Hi Nello,
The SX4 wheels are plain steel with Pirelli M & S tyres with some Fiat wheel trims.
Is your 1.6 the 88 or 78kw?
My Sedici is an odd spec in that it came with alloys but does not have an a height adjustable drivers seat nor colour coding...(got it from Fiat Direct new for 7500 jan 2010)

the 1.6 engine is widely used in other suzuki's so spares not a problem...

Search the net and there are a load of goodies from the US for the SX4 as well including a lift kit which, when bigger wheels are added, will give greater ground clearance

Tim - ours is the 78kw 'S1' Sedici.
I thought the Drivers seat lift was standard?
Yours a facelift car then?

Andy - I got lucky with the rear hub/bearing by placing an Ad on this very Forum(! ).
Someone had a brand new one that had not been fitted and kept after they sold their car.
Got it for half the price. I did not price it up with Suzuki but it'll be the same part - as mentioned the rears a complete assembly contained within the hub so will still be pricey whereas I have a spare front wheel bearing off ebay in Suzuki packaging for a tenner!
