We have a 2019 500x with the 1.3 150bhp engine, does anyone know if it has a timing belt or a chain? Reason I'm asking is it makes a big difference to DIY servicing and the dealers are talking silly money. Any advice or links to info would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

In EPER it is normally termed "Distribution". 🙂

As per the link above, chains are not for life and often now have service intervals not that dissimilar to belts. The material costs of a belt are cheaper they also tend to be more simple to fit, then you don’t have the hassle of sealing everything up again o avoid oil leaks as you would with a chain, so either way cats are going to be high

So do we have a chain or a belt? Our car is 4 years old with 19,000 on the clock so a chain should have about another 4 years to go at this level of usage

I don't think any version of experience covers firefly engine's

But all firefly engines are chains

If their are chains I can consider my ownership options, dealer servicing prices are Stratospheric compared to rational thoughts based upon experience!!

I checked the handbook today and according to it only the 1.4 engine has a toothed timing belt? Even the auxiliary belt is good for 120,000 km's according to the manual. I'll do the annual service myself this year for about £150 compared to the dealers who were asking over £600!!
