Evening guys,

Asked this question before and never really got an answer.

Topped up my oil a few times over the past 14 months and it's time for a change.

Used about 2 litres of cheap oil topping up over the past 14 months or so...

Last time I changed it, I put in 10w40w semi synth from ecp, used wynns engine flush prior to changing and put a new Mann filter on.
Since then, it's had a new sump, don't know what oil was put in by garage but it's been eating it since, I just topped up about 2litres over 14 months.

I'm going to change it again this weekend and look at the door issue I have.

What oil do you recommend? I was thinking should I go with 10w40 fully synth decent brand or cheap 10w40 semi synth from ecp.

Also...what's the best rated thermostat as I'll be doing that too.

1.2 2003 stilo, 94k miles on engine

Any help appreciated guys

I used to put 5w30 in mine before I sold it. The thinner oil gets to the top of the head quicker during cold starting so it sounds less tappety but with yours having a high-ish mileage, best to stick with 10w40 to prevent it burning the oil. The brand doesn't really matter as long as it meets the specs set by industry standards. There's loads of threads on the internet that will agree and disagree though lol.

Regarding the thermostat, only buy Fiat original, the copies don't last very long. There's very little difference in price too. Use a thick paper gasket, no need for the messy liquid stuff. Also doesn't matter what brand coolant you put in as long as you flush the old stuff out thoroughly. Takes the pink stuff though. :)

Thanks JayEm,

Im still stuck with a decision on Semi synth and Fully Synth.

I am going to stick with 10w40w as i've always used this in the lower range of car's i have owned, the only car's i've used 5w30w in was the Audi and the Beamer.

Thermostat and liquid is already noted - not going to spend a bomb on coolant, just going to buy the cheap pink stuff that it already has in it.
