Didn't knew coasting out of gear is illegal! I checked the Romanian law and guess what? It is illegal here too! This is really surprising! I know that coasting in gear wastes no fuel as opposed to doing it in gear which will, but I always coast out of gear as much as I can! Why? For the pure smoothness of the way the car goes. For me, comfort is priority #1. I have observed that taking your foot off the accelerator while in gear (especially in lower gears) does create a sudden (nauseating) diving motion, so I always break with break and clutch at the same time. (Much more control of the comfort of the breaking period) I also, always cost out of gear - most of the time the engine is at tick over - also for general comfort.
In fact, when I took my driving license, I did coast out of gear on more than few ocassions. The policeman next to me didn't object!
So yeah...the only time I do coast in gear is when I'm approaching the exit ramp of a highway. I'm coming in at 130km/h...I shift to 4th....then let it reach 90...then 3rd....let it reach 60...and then back to 4th to maintain 60.
