I can't; its like a guy mentioned above - it comes on automatically if the blower is pointed to the window position and seems to stay on for a while, even though the AC is turned off on the dash.

No way round it other than to move the blower to a different position, then back once the window starts gumming up...and repeat over and over.

Not controlled by a fuse?

Compressor nor any relay should be clicking on and off if there is no gas in the system especially if there is a hole in the condenser ?!

Also just turn the Aircon off with the button should stop it clicking on and off.

Failing that you have a different problem

Yep the(lack of) pressure switch should switch the system off?

Pulled the fuse out at lunch there and its stopped the compressor kicking in.

Silence at last with no more rattles!!!

The fuse is only for air con according to the diagrams so no side effects by the looks of it. Oddly the fuse is meant to be a 7.5 but is a 5a on my car? Perhaps someone's been in there already but anyway.

Agree the low pressure should stop it kicking in as well but maybe the there was slow leak so it still has enough to actuate then clicks off.

Relief to have that sorted...car sounds quite smooth now vs the bag of spanners it did before.

Slight thread revival.
I've owned my 15 plate ford ka for 3 weeks and I just noticed the aircon clutch kicking in every 20 secs or so when aimed at the windscreen, and it's correct that on my 2006 focus if I aim at the windcreen the aircon automatically kicks in. Mmmmmm another querk solved possibly

Possibly.

I traded the car in last wednesday anyway so a problem for the next owner to deal with now! :)

Well getting rid would solve it.
I can confirm that if the airflow is directed at the screen the aircon kicks in although the light doesn't show.
By having the airflow to face mpg has increased to 52 mpg from 46 mpg.

I know about the air con kicking in if it points at the screen but this was different; the air con clutch was constantly kicking on and off...so even if you had the switch on, regardless of being set to the screen, if you watched the compressor clutch it'd kick on and off.

Wasn't even an "its at temp so kick off" thing, it was literally ever x seconds
