I notice the official combined consumption on 1 1.2 Stilo is 43.46mpg

and yet I've seen 45mpg on a forums members description in posts.

How on earth is this possible?

It is only about 1.5mpg out, lol - not exactly earth shatteringly different...

Anyway, official figures can't always be trusted. Plus we don't know how that member calculated his economy.

cause the combined figures take into account motorway driving and town driving.

I think your find the extra urban fuel consumption on the 1.2 stilo is a lot higher than 45mpg, so if you do a lot of motorway driving or cruising at 50+ the fuel consumption is going to be better than the combined figure.

My stilo has the 1.2 engine in it and i drive on the motorway everyday to and from work and it constantly averages 46mpg

I drive mostly on country roads and in traffic- get 40mpg on average. When i work 8-4 or 9-5 its about 39mpg and when i work 11-7 or 12-8 i can get about 45mpg.

When I do motorway driving and I cruise at just under or to 70mph i have had 50mpg out of it.

i can get 99.9mpg if i go downhill with my clutch down!
You would get better mpg, by just taking your foot of the gas peddle, as the ECU would work out that no fuel is needed to keep the engine running, with the clutch down, the engine needs fuel to keep ticking over.

Out of interest I've just completed a mamouth jorney in my 1.6 5 door:

Bournemouth->Holyhead->Dublin
Dublin->Ballina, County Mayo
Ballina->Leitir Moir (Conimara)
Leitir Moir>Galway
Galway->Ballina
Ballina->Dungannon (N. Ireland)
Dungannon->Dublin
Dublin->Holyhead->Hereford->Bournemouth

Total Miles 1365, average of 39.2 MPG

Not to bad for a 1.6 and about 800m of this I had a loaded roof rack on. I've attached a map of the route (it's a rough route from map point)

I get around 37mpg around town. It's about 40 - 42 on long runs. It's due for it's 3 year service - the first time the air filter gets changed. I'm hoping it will breathe easier and get better mpg afterwards.

about 40-45 mpg average depends if im thrashing the arse of it! :D

*looks at disapearing chavs in rear mirror:devil: *

We can all get 99.9mpg down hill with the clutch in! I can actually get 99.9 in gear going down hill! :p But thats instant!

I can average 45, although currently about 43.6mpg, on the first 100miles of the tank.

Best i've managed on a long run, 600 miles was 49.5mpg, and that was speeding some of the time too! With 4 up in the car and luggage!

Its about conservation of speed, not using brakes too much or flooring it! ;) You learn good driving technique owning a mini!
