Hello People,

My 500X 1.0 Sport 60k km has time (tensioner) chain issues. Making loud clapping noise, probably because of the wrong oil that they put in last service (first owner) they put 505.01 oil in it.

Now im searching for any information about this engine but there is really nothing to find.

Does anybody know where the timechain is located. Left side or behind? Or maybe somebody have some technical information?

The chain is on the opposite end to the gearbox, where a conventional cam-belt would be.

You can see a video of the engine here;

There's a view of the block at 18 seconds, if you pause it and you can see the chain run quite clearly

Regarding the clap... I would look at the tensioner first. They're usually spring-loaded.. operated by a rod working in a sleeve, that presses a long nylon blade against the chain to keep it taught.... (although Firefly is not necessarily the same). The rod is a prime candidate for sticking, particularly if heavier or non-spec' oil has been introduced.

An engine flush might help... but when you put the goo into the hot engine, let it idle for 10-15 minutes (or whatever the instructions say) but then leave it in there overnight to dissolve any gum. Next morning warm it up and let it idle for 10-15 minutes again, before draining it. If it was me, I'd stick some flushing oil in there next .. it's usually 0W30 with a lot of detergent (kerosene) in it.. and it's good for removing the residual oil/flusher. Then drain that, change the filter and refill with new oil. Yours may be 0W30 spec'. although mine (Jan 2022) wants 0W20.
