Technical 07 Fiat Ducato 3.0 Gearbox/clutch problem

Right here goes....!

I lost reverse gear around a month ago, I finally got round to taking the gearbox out 2 days ago. I knew what the problem was it was a piece of metal stuck in the end of the reverse gear tube that the selector forks are on. I had the same problem on my 07 Citroen relay so thats why I knew what the problem was.

Me and my dad put the gearbox back in and put it all back together, while up in the air I started it up in first gear to see if it was working which it was, wheels were spinning. I then tried reverse and everything was fine. I turned it off then we bled the clutch which seemed like a right struggle.

Started van up went to take it for a test drive and i've got no drive in any gear. Clutch goes down and goes into gear but nothing happens when I lift my foot up. If I put it in any other gear other than 1st and reverse i'm getting a griding noise.

Can anyone shed any light on what the problem could be? I'm thinking it could be clutch but there was nothing wrong with it before we took it out. I don't think we damaged anything while doing it either.

sounds like clutch related to me.., but should be the same in ALL gears..

weird..!!
is the clutch hydraulics inboard..or still accessible..??

if bolted on top..I'd just unbolt it and test the gears without the clutch once more.

Sounds as if the splined centre of the clutch friction plate has broken out of the plate itself. There would be rough edges making the grinding noise and no drive at all?

Problem solved!! on further inspection today I got under the van with it in gear and noticed the driveshaft on drivers side turning, it wasnt turning the wheel. Broken outer cv joint luckily enough there was a spare when i bought the van!

Did you not get any warning of impending failure of the CV? Usually get lots of nasty noises on steering lock particularly.

Yes the drivers side was clicking a bit but then stopped for quite some time and I totally forgot about it, had the van back to work today and it's back it it's usual self!
